That's the shameful part, I test drove the impala originally and loved it. Of course the car I test drove didn't shake, whisper quiet. I'm on the road a good 1k miles a week average. Like ice skates to a hockey player, this vehicle is a tool to my trade. I'm in it more than I see my family (unfortunately). Sounds nutty but I couldn't take the shake one day longer. It was like the Tell Tale Heart lol. So far so good with the 430. Believe it or not, there's things about the Chevy I like far better. The bose system, trunk space, more back seat space, engine noise. Things I like better with the BMW, resale, it's absolute razor straight, eerie actually. It screws, braking and handling are killer. Things I hate....cost of upkeep and price in general 47.5k

My dealer did a buy back after many complaints in writing and verbal...
Dealership went above and beyond, from owner to various people in the calling
Corporate Chevy, to doing locating of new vehicle....They were even were willing to go
300 miles to find a car.
One of many that I test drove a 2017 had the vibration with 35 miles on it...
It came down to 3 cars..all equipped the same. They even put on a spoiler for free
since the old car had one...They made a mistake in quote, forgot the car I chose had the
special paint. But they didn't feel it was right to ask for more.
After all was said and done, got a 2017 Premier for what they wanted for a 2016 LTZ....
Looked around at other dealers, would have gotten less in trade...
So does this one vibrate, guess only time will tell...4 months, so far so good....lol

p.s. They're still cranking them out with the warped rear shelf....lol

I love these cars so much, I got 2! My black on with just over 4k on her has not exhibited any sort of vibration issue. The white on with 3.5k no issue either.
The infotainment is great, ANDROID AUTO is awesome! I, to this day haven't set any radio presets or xm presets because I use my audio apps.
I don't really pay attention to resale value. Hell if youre the type that does, WHY DA FUQ did you even buy one of these? Get yourself a top notch non depreciating vehicle then!!!
I gotta admit, these cars just eat up the miles! Theyre a blast to drive and are a solid buy.
I have to agree with this. This is my first since my '60, '65SS, 67SS and '74 Impalas and other than my '74 that weighed twice as much powered by a 454 V8 is the best in comfort and handling. And unlike all the others during the first 2K miles the '17 has been completely defect and trouble free and is loaded with gizmos.

And as for those that bellyache about poor resale value.....Oh no! Impalas lose 30% of their value in the first 3 years........that is your problem not the inherent value of the vehicle. The name of the game is "You can pays me now or you can pays me later". You can cry, plead and kiss the salesman's ring and if you are really lucky you might get $1K or even $2K off a $36K '17 Toyota Avalon that in 3 years will only lose 10% of its value. "Oooooo...It's got great resale value!" Or you can play the GM game and wait for the seasonal 20% sale on '17 Impala, use the GM card (mine had only $44 which they routinely top off to $1.5K), and then cry plead and kiss the salesman's ring to get an additional discount including part of his commission and the dealer end of the month holdback and discounting ripoff prep charges and get A $36K Impala for $26.9K including tossing in free GM all weather mats. So if I lose 30% I'm still ahead of the game before the bumper to bumper expires. Think you can buy a Toyota et. al. for a sale price equivalent to it's depreciation up front? Extremely doubtful.

My 2016 Impala has thrown itself into reduced engine power mode twice in the last two days, along with messages to service ABS and Stabilitrak. Internet makes it seem like something Chevy's do. 32,500 miles. It's in the shop now. We'll see. Not happy.

You can have troubles with all makes! I had an 09 Vibe incognito Toyota matrix, In 1.5 years blew an A/C line, went to the dealer 6 times for rattle in the overhead console which they said they could hear but never correct, finally gave up on that. Spit center caps out of the wheels like they were going out of style. The transmission coming down from highway speeds from #2 to #1 gear would bang so hard it would shake the entire car.

Dealer could not fix it. I found a TSB and the correction for that and gave it to them which cured that problem but did install a bunch of confidence in that dealer. I have since switched dealers.

I traded that one off for a 10 Malibu which for one check engine light in the first 50K never went back to the dealer. Loved that car, but unfortunately
it had run in with a very large branch from one my trees and because of that incident I do own my 9th gen which has been in for the taillight gaskets and DIC issue which it resets it self to the factory settings. 3 1/3 years of ownership and 41 K

^^^ THIS. I got a fully loaded '17 for 26% off MSRP. Resale value? With that kind of a discount it's irrelevant.

Doesn't matter what you pay for the car, I got a great deal on mine too. Bottom line is, the resale is terrible. When the car is problematic, as mine certainly was and the company doesn't deliver on quality....I have a huge problem with that. I didn't care about resale as I made a sound choice to buy a loaded vehicle and run it for 5 years, give my daughter the vehicle when she turns 17nwith approx 70/80k on it and off to college. Car was never correct since day one, I lost...I'm not crying about it even a little bit. However, I'm allowed to be jerked about the situation. I loved the car, I wished they would've been stand up and help me out. Instead they send the same DB field tech that stamps a big ole "can't find the issue" and I'm slowly taking my thumb out of my butt. So, all good. Bought a $55k BMW for $47 change. Yep, more money. It they let me take one for 5 days, unlimited miles to see if I liked it.

So far, so good. Laser straight, all I ever wanted. It sucks that I had to buy a foreign car, never thought I would. But I'm a driver, I live on the road all week and I need a side arm I could do 60% of my week in. Bottom line is, there's no great deals out there....if you buy a car and it leaves the lot, they won not you....don't ever forget it

So far, no problems with my '15 2LTZ, 20K miles, 2.5 years old. Built in the Detroit plant. I think they must have designed the rear shelf with the dip in the middle, as I have never seen one without it.
Not by design, it's an inherent problem of Impalas, told to me by senior body shop member.
Check out previous threads about the matter, including comments by Impala427. This
person worked in a GM assembly plant and discusses the problem.
I previously posted a picture of a 2016 loaner with a flat rear shelf.
But over a period of time, they will warp to various degrees. Some a little, some alot.

As AceDrinker said above..Chevy chooses to ignore some problems....instead of stepping up and
solving them.

I have a 2014 Impala 1LT (4 cyl). I have had it since 10k miles and it has 48k on it now. I have an extended GM warranty that covers it until 80 or 90k...can't remember.

It has been in the shop for a tail light gasket leak that they didn't pay for because aparently the extended warranty doens't cover water leaks. $150 out of my pocket to fix this. I think it's BS.

It has also been in the shop for a bad module of some type which caused the dash to light up due to Stabilitrak, ABS, and something else. Warranty covered that.

It has also been in the shop because the right rear wheel bearing went bad and was causing a vibration on the highway.

I love the way the car drives and floats along. It reminds me of the Impala's of the past (60's and 70's). The 4-cyl is OK. I wish I would have bought the V6.

p.s. They're still cranking them out with the warped rear shelf....lol
If they are all "warped", maybe, just maybe, that is how they are designed and not the defect everyone seems to think it is???
Nope a flaw...Note to the left a white rectangle- that the top of parts # tag and the middle and right that's the black gasket, it should be against.

Also have a 2016 photo loaner where the rear deck goes straight across no dip.

Hit on Impala427, worked a GM assembly plant, for his comments about the warp.

Also talked to a senior body shop person who told me that it was an inherent problem with
Impalas.

The rear deck thing isn't an issue with me. Mine has been the same since I bought it new. It came with a dip. I thought it was part of the design until I heard people complain about it here. My car has no issues at all. Like others have said, every make and model will have issues of some sort. I love my Impala and any complaints I have are not a big deal. It's a reliable car and as reliable as any other good car. You have to remember cars today are loaded with all kinds of tech that can go wrong. They are also mass produced and there are many third party manufacturers involved. An example is the recent airbag issues. None of those are due to the car manufacturer but the suppliers

To be clear, there is only one problem supplier, and it's Takata.

Fortunately for GM (and us customers) they mostly stayed away from the Takata bags, which use ammonium nitrate as the oxidizer in the propellant. Moisture gets in the propellant and acts as a burn-rate modifier. The result is that the propellant transitions towards being an explosive - instead of going whoosh, they go bang.

There are very few GM cars using Takata.

As for the sagging rear deck, I don't see that as a big issue either - I can fix that with some foam from the hobby or fabric store. But the engine vibration issue has me very reluctant to consider picking up a used Impala right now. (Altho I'm still buying GM - I have two recent vintage Cruzes.)

As for resale, it's not a concern - I drive them 'til the wheels fall off. But the engine vibration would drive me nuts. They need to find a fix, and then make it well known they have one.

only thing that scares me is the electronics,

the motor trans etc has been around since 2011... on the other hand the rental car companies are still buying the old cars, granted some have new ones but gm is still building new old body styles... it does make one wonder... and gm cut the warranty on all new vehicles in 16.. so for me my other 4 impalas had two problems in about 500K miles.

1) shifter cable broke on the 06 at 150K miles $45.00 fix..
2) shock failure on the 08 at 120K miles ( however that car was jumped by employee so ill not count that)
3) 12 was born with bad hubs or sensors in the hub, would always say stabilitrac? immobilizing. or traction on, or it would just kick on abs.. I cant remember now how they fixed it but i think they replaced hub.

so far on the 15,

Seat quit, ( said blown fuse)
black dash, ( reset its self)
ac / heated seat quit, ( motor burned up they said)
they did a recall on something.
trans reflash or re learn... heck i dont know... i just drop it off and they do what they do.

I have a 2014 2LT 3.6L with ~78k miles.

My biggest problem with the car seems to be an electrical issue. It started around ~67k miles, where the blind zone alert stopped working. After a few thousand more miles, the dash shut down (no HVAC, touch screen, speedo, tach, center screen info), the head lights were coming on and off, the locks were opening and closing, and it died at a stop light.

Once I got it home, I pulled the battery cable for a few hours and everything came back fine.

Now at 78k miles, the issue has come back. I have not lost power yet, but some mornings I have the same issues as above.

Besides this I have replaced the rear wheels bearings (56K) , fixed the taillight issues, and got the recalls taken care of.

Has GM done anything at all to address the vibration issue in the 9th Gens?

Nothing that I'm aware of - at least nothing they've announced publicly (although, since they've never acknowledged the problem to begin with, I guess we shouldn't expect a solution to be announced). This issue alone is enough for me not to consider the 9th gen Impala as a potential replacement for my 8th gen. It's just too risky - if you happen to get one that vibrates, you're SOL... I guess I'll be waiting for the 10th gen at least! :)

I have no intentions of getting a 9th either Jim. I guess we're just going to keep our 8th Impalas as long as possible, lol. I know I'm keeping mine as long as I can. Overkill personally sat in my vehicle and tuned it for me. :)
