I have a 2015 Impala LT I have had the trunk open by itself. This has happened a couple of times. So I started getting out of the car and putting the fob in my toolbox and it still happened. The last time it happened I went and shut the trunk and it opened again within two seconds so I slammed it shut it stayed. So I'm scared to put anything in my trunk now anybody else have this problem

I have had it do that a couple of times when I was out doing something in the yard. I figured my pants shrunk in the wash and were a little tight so it may have made the button get pushed when I bent over. I soon realized my pants hadn't shrunk, I just got bigger.

That link says it will be reprogrammed to a 1 second push, our 2015 Impala requires a long push (seems like over 1 second to me) so it must already be incorporated into at least some of the 2015 ones.

I've experienced the same issue with the 2015 remote, even though it already requires the long push. IMO the remote design is poor - the recessed buttons on the fobs from 2000 up through 2013 didn't ever have this problem.

The key fob for our 2014 Impala 2LTZ is the "intelligent" type for the push button start. Almost every time I put the fob in my pocket, the switchblade key button got pushed and the key poped open in my pocket. I resorted to putting a rubber band around the fob to prevent it.

I also have a 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4 with the intelligent key and push button start. Ford designed the fob so that a latch must be pushed and the actual key (to enter the vehicle if needed) must be pulled out of the fob. It is a very good design - I can't believe GM resorts to the switchblade key style for the intelligent fobs.

Personally, I prefer keys that actually go into the ignition. :)

Sure you can have a faulty design on the ignition switch (or the key as GM says), but you can also have a faulty design on the keyfob and/or "Start" push-button (just like we're talking about here with the keyfob)...

Keys work great and also give you a place to keep your keys while driving. :) I have never liked push-button starts. Just a problem that doesn't need solved in my opinion.

Aaah..I love the push button start. Never have to take the keys out of my pocket to unlock the car or start it. So simple. No matter if I have my hands full, gloves on or what ever.
It just looks to me that the fob buttons aren't as recessed as they used to be several years ago which makes it much more sensitive to being set off by rubbing against another item.

Never had a problem with keys, they are pretty simple to use.

Yeah, guess I'm just spoiled now after two cars with push button start. Just love the no shuffle through pocket, no line up and turn simplicity of just pushing a button. Sometimes even my seat automatically returns to my seating position without even needing to squeeze in, pull a lever and slide back. Hell, I don't even need to squat down with a tire gauge to check the air, just push a button and shazam 'there it is'..!! Some day soon all I'll have to do is push a button and an onboard pump will adjust that two lbs. in a low tire. Next might be the car will keep all tires precise at all times without pushing anything. Start when you put your foot on the gas pedal, shut off when you brake or open the drivers door. Make me a Latte in the cup holder if it's between 6am & noon. An iced tea if the temp is over 80 outside...and I won't even need to lift a finger. Seatbelt and steering wheel sensors will determine if my immediate mental state needs to hear Led Zepplin or Nora Jones. Hey..I'm serious..!!

Now I would like seat memory. My wife gets in and she likes the seat all pushed up. I like it back. Would be nice to push a button and it goes to where I like it. I am still fine with using a key although a push button seems kinda cool.
Our 13 Malibu ECO shut off at stops and restarted when foot was taken off the brake. Worked great. In fact, we kinda miss it.

With the money I saved in my wallet by not getting that feature, it does provide a little extra cushion for my butt though. :laughing7:

My 2015 Impala has done the same thing 5 times now, only in public lots. The trunk release on the key fob has to be held down hard for nearly 2 seconds, so it's not that. The local dealership can't duplicate the situation and say they can't fix it as as there is no solution offered by gmc.
Any luck solving the problem with yours?

Funny this was brought back up. I came out of the barber shop Sunday and found the Impala's trunk wide open.

We had Buick Lacrosse CXL which trunk popped open a various occasions and places. Buick replaced the module in the trunk. It still mysteriously opened. Do to high number of complaints, Buick came up with double click module which stopped the problem. Ironically, the fobs I have now are exactly the same as the 2011 Lacrosse.
