Trifecta or Overkill Tune Kit

So, I've done everything to my car that I want to do with the exception of a Tune kit. So my question is which one should I get? My car has about 8k on it right now. I've read some good things on both, but would like to get opinions on the 2 available tunes. I've currently got the Overkill CAI and I've got nothing but good to say about it. Any and all input is welcomed!

The main benefit of the Trifecta tune is that GM cannot tell that a tune is/was applied. That is a huge benefit on a such a new car though. Although, it's my understanding that GM does not normally look for evidence that a custom tune was applied on these cars, so maybe it doesn't really matter too much...

Would just hate to see having your warranty voided if something major were to happen engine/trans wise....

As to which is better performance-wise, I can't really say.

The main benefit of the Overkill tune is that it is "open" - if you choose to, you can always modify it with an HPTuner device. The Trifecta tune is locked down - you can view or modify the tune yourself.

PX...

Doesn't really matter which one you will get, you will be happy with the Trifecta tune or the Overkill. Both will provide excellent benefits (power, engine dynamics, etc.) and support.

Here below a few link regarding my personal mods, tune and data-login. There other post under the 8Gen engine performance thread (and more info in my garage). I ordered other performance parts from Overkill Yesterday, will post my gains and personal feedback sometime in April.

Good luck and keep posting your mods. Cheers,

With Overkill tuning for the 14-16 Impalas:

-You get an 87 octane tune and a 91/93 octane tune, plus E85 specific tuning in each if your vehicle is flex fuel enabled.
-You get easy scanning and retuning for both the initial tune and any retunes at no charge
-The tune is set up for your modifications. I have specific tuning adjustments for my air filter system, my 80mm throttle body, JacFab spacer etc. This is due to specializing in these engines and their available mods.
-You get an HPTuner suite that is easily resellable to reduce the net cost of the tune. I realize that selling an HPTuner suite to deliver an Overkll tune is a bit more cumbersome than selling a handheld but it's also a big plus to get a very useable and sellable product, not just to get the Overkill tune itself.

So I went with the overkill kit. It should arrive any day now. What should I expect of it? Any tips? If it messes up on the install, will my car be hosed? This is a first for me. I've only ever had experience with the Jet Chips and those were basically plug and play. Will I be able to use this hook up to diagnose my car as well? BTW - This is my 100th post!

Ok, so I gave Trifecta a chance and boy am I a happy camper. Throttle lag - GONE. Shifts much more fluidly if not overly aggressive. Was a breeze to install and they were very helpful with answering any presale questions. I was in the same state of mind being between Overkill or Trifecta but the transparency option of Trifecta sold me, as I have a 84000mi warranty. Keep in mind that I also have no plans for cold air intakes or engine mods, I simply wanted better shift patterns and a lil extra kick.

Agreed. Pretty sweet turning it "off" by shutting down the cruise system.

Its a very obvious change. I switch it back to normal mode sometimes for reg driving and its a huge difference. When its on, you feel in control of the revs/shifting. When off, its back to normal, grandpa mode regulated by the computer...just blaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Searched but I can't find your email, let me know what address its under or send me a private message here on the forums instead.

Also, 2014s I can now tune with Autocal handheld including the transmission!

I installed my Trifecta tune a little over 2 weeks ago now and all I can say is "wow!" she's a whole new beast. It does take some getting used to. Off the line it is tough to keep traction if you get a little to aggressive with the go pedal. Once the rpms hit around the 2k mark it just wants to rip! I love it! It's funny even my wife can tell a difference, "hey, do you always need to gun it like that?" hahahahaha

Nice work Trifecta! Also, the customer support is incredible. They're super nice to work with. My uncle is going to get their tunes for his '15 Sierra and Eclave now.

If you are going to get the intake or do other performance mods you will want to go with Overkill as Trifecta is designed for stock vehicles and cannot be modified.

i have installed trifecta tune for less than 2 weeks...oh boy it really wakes up the car. Its a must add on in the impala. Been greedy for the past few days so I ordered overkill throttled body and intake. I know it won't fit with trifecta tune but will give it a shot.

I have both Overkill CAI and Tune and couldn't be happier. Car is a lot more responsive and the power difference is night and day. If you Want the CAI, I would go with the Overkill Tune as the tune has the CAI worked in. Great customer support as well!

Not sure if they can program it to anything other than the cruise function Jon. This was done so you get the original fuel saving tune from GM while you are putting away down the highway. You would have to contact them directly @ News - TRIFECTA - Home - trifectaperformance.com for any serious questions like this. It is designed for your v6 LFX motor. It is as easy to remove as it is to install. Follow their directions here: EZ Flash User Guide

Thanks Icubb, The specs say the tune improves MPG due to shift improvements. that's why I thought "why would I ever want to turn it off" So I understand, to turn it on, and off..You use the actual cruise power switch, correct? The one on the right side of the left switch cluster above the steering wheel heat button? It's not the actual set button, right?

Thanks!!

Angus576: I have ordered overkill Throttle body, Cold air intake & the Tune for sometime now but apparently there is no response yet from overkill about the delivery date. Once I have it I shall update you guys with pictures.

I will say in defense of Will (Overkill). There is customs concerns and unfortunately the package may be waiting at your countries customs facility. Have you sent him a PM?

Probably just as easy as the trifecta!
