Im going to replace my Knock Sensor because my Scan tool says i have 3954 Counts!!!! It has increased because last time i check about 3 weeks ago it was 3606. Im wondering how do i Reset the pcm so that it relearns the modifications i have made. Raiss intake, spintech exhaust, 3.73 gears. This isnt as simple as clear codes, is it? Whats the best way to completely reset the PCM/ECU?

Well, resetting is as simple as disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes. But it sounds like what you are looking for is a tune. Do a search on PCM tune and see what you get, I think pcmforless is the one people are liking, but I don't remember for sure.

I am eventually looking to do a pcm tune...but, $$$ is the issue. The pcm is crazy...i get a different knock sensor count everytime i start the car. It goes to 0 with the key on ACC but when i start it...its a huge number in the thousands, so im ruling that the pcm is just a crazy bastard

Knock count numbers are cumulative and the pcm triggers some at startup to test operation of the sensors so the only thing I see wrong here is you lack of understanding. Helps a whole lot to ask the right questions FIRST before making assumption about something you don't understand.

Now without a log of the car while running it would be hard to say if there is any actual problem. You would look for constant accumulation of count while driving, I stress CONSTANT, occasional is completely normal. I would also look at timing retard.

i had the scanner connected while driving around and the knock retard NEVER left 0.0 and the counter never moved once the car was started even after driving around, and when i say the counter had a different number each time, i mean it was more than the previous reading or less than the previous reading, the numbers just jumped around each time.

Sounds completely normal to me and if KR is zero the performance impact is zero. If you stab the throttle a little and the count goes up and maybe even KR for s split second that would still be normal.

A friend has a stroker done by some hack associated with TPIS and it has Ross nitrous pistons(he got a deal), damned thing sounds like a diesel, should see what the knock count and KR did on that thing till we got a good tuner not associated with TPIS involved.

Sometimes it shows less? Thats crazy, that would have to be in the PCM in that case, the sensor wouldn't cause that.

And Dwayne, you forgot your punctuation, it should have been "I would also look at timing, retard."
Maybe I will go back and edit that, really does change what is said.:icon_eek:

And here I thought there was enough retard in this thread already.

I know somewhere in the net there is a great guide to what all the scanning figures should be and explanations of them. I think that could really help here. LOTS of folks worry about things like this simply because they don't understand them yet, like we all see "overheating" concerns due to how high the stock fan temps are.

I will see if I can find it, and if anyone already has the link please post.

Here is a start.
