Figured this would be a good place to post about this. First off, I first seen this code back in December when I installed the new TB. I removed a clip to reduce tension on the wiring for the EVAP solenoid under the hood and it went away for about 5 months. Well lately my CEL is on for it constantly and I'm looking to help diagnose it. First thing I did was check the wiring and it looked good. I had about a steady 11.5 volts with ignition on to the solenoid. Tested the solenoid with 12 volts and it turned on and off, keep in mind the solenoid is brand new. Now I'm stumped what else it could be. I don't know if maybe there's a weird fuse or something or maybe if it's the EVAP canister but everywhere I look this code comes back to the solenoid under the hood. Anyone have a word schematic or anything? Tried to check on EBSCO but the account posted here doesn't work anymore.

He clearly states that he already tested the solenoid (and that it's brand new)....

So some more info. When I installed two days ago, I cleared the CEL and it immediately returned, as it has for the last month with this code. . Cleared it today and it didn't come back on for about 25 miles. Cleared it again and went 20 more miles and turned the car off and hasn't came back again. It is mounted horizontal rather then the factory vertical so I will have someone turn on the car and let me listen under the hood for the plunger to open. Need to see what size hose Will@overkill sends for the relocation of it so I can buy a longer piece. I will also clamp the end connections to see if that helps.

Well the CEL hasn't came on since I posted last until today. Drove around 120 miles or so. I noticed when filling up my gas tank today the lid was broke and won't twist or lock on and just test there. So I'm sure that's the reason why now. I had that issue before about 2 years ago when I replaced the cap and it threw the same CEL code. Ordering a new one and trying again.

Well she is back and I can clear it and have it back within 5 seconds. Really confused with it. Tested the voltage of the of the plug for the solenoid. I only get 11.35 volts. Hard to tell if it's opening and closing under the hood but it does when tested with my bench supply. If I unplug the hose at the bottom going to the engine block, I can feel it sucking in air. Can't feel or tell if there's anything coming out of the clip hose on top. Going to have my girlfriend help me today and try to hear if it's turning on or not. Also going to check the fuses.

Tested voltage today with the car on, the solenoid under the hood I got around 13 volts and the purge valve behind the drivers fender I got ~13.5 volts. Did notice that when I have the hoses disconnected from the solenoid under the hood, I get sucking in/vacuum pressure at the engine block but can't really tell if anything is coming out of the hose that connects on top, also noticed if I have the solenoid plugged in, and try blowing into it, the plunger in it is closed. So I brought it into the house and tested it with my bench tester, as soon as it gets power it opens and I can blow air thru it. Which I can't do outside, I don't know what to test or do now. Maybe it only opens when the vent valve in the rear opens, which I don't know how to trick it into or not.

Look at BBBind.com website for electrical schematic for the evap system.
Check fuse/voltage/wiring of canister vent solenoid circuit.

Vent valve need to close during evap test. If not result is error code P0449

Checked the website listed with no avail, also checked all fuses under the fuse box, all were good and in working order. So if the plunger opens then the check engine light will come on? From what I've read, the canister will store the vapors until full, then release them back into the engine via the vent valve. Seems like I need to buy the canister and see if that helps, going to remove the canister tomorrow and test it on my bench supply with 12 volts. What exactly does it do when it gets power?

The error code P0449 is a result of the ECM not seeing the correct voltage from the vent solenoid circuit.
See allfive6 video, shows vent solenoid can be removed from canister.

The vent solenoid is normally open and purge solenoid normally closed.
When ECM calls for evap purge vent solenoid closes and purge solenoid opens.

You can test the vent solenoid with your 12v supply. When it closes it should seal the vent.

Awesome. I'll test this tomorrow. I'll be looking to see if the vent solenoid opens and closes.
