I know it's broke, I just don't know what it is?

** sorry if this is a duplicate post. I started it in the general Gen1 forum but then saw the suspension section ** not sure it that's a faux pas or not...

Hi All,

I've got a 68' impala 327 with a broken suspension part. Mech is calling it a "strut" but I can't find that anywhere, I'm told the part number is 3925171 but can't find that either... I've looked in all the usual places under suspension (classic industries, bobs Impala, impala.com...) but I'm calling it a strut so that may be wrong. Mech says I can get a set of GM aftermarket with Hines joints instead of the bolt but it's $500 plus labor!!! Not gonna happen right now.

It's front drivers side. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on this? At least a proper name for it maybe even a source!!!!!

Thanks much.

Hi Don,

I saw that. But it looks so much smaller. The one on the car is pretty beefy maybe it's just the picture on eBay. I sent him a message for demintions.

But you think that's it huh? Thanks for the I out and I'll check it out.

Your broken part is definitely your strut rod. Bolts between your control arm and the frame. Threaded on one end for alignment purposes. Gotta say I never saw one break from fatigue like that. Even during accidents (except for major ones) they usually bend not break.
