Replacing Headrest with Cadillac Tilting version

I have not like the headrests of new cars since around 2008,when they were regulated into a extreme forward angle, that when sitting up in a healthy forward posture, your chin is basically down on your chest, head leaning forward, shoulders hunched. Not very comfortable. You have 3 choices, turn the headrest around but then it leans too far back.
Two, put the headrest in a vice and bend the rods back 20-30 degrees, which has been a good alternative but then it always seemed to contact the top of the head with no neck support. It was the best idea yet.... until I did a little research on option #3 , a headrest for a Cadillac Escalade 2007-14.

The Escalade headrest is slightly smaller and tilts with a button.
It fits perfectly and matches the leather exactly.
Its comfortable and supports the neck area allowing a very nice fit if you are a driver 5’ 10” or taller. I’m 6’ and it’s just right.
Allows for better vision in all directions, and makes the cabin area feel bigger.
Plus, it's adjustable.
Pictures below show the seat with original headrest, which looks big compared with the tilting versions. You also notice in the side by side pics, the original is fatter and leans farther forward from the posts.

You can find them on Ebay, they do seem to keep going up in price. Be patient, deals can be had.
1st pic-passenger seat with escalade headrest.
2nd pic is driver seat showing the large original headrest bent 25 degrees back
3rd is both seats with the new escalades. Much roomier feeling.

And here are a couple more photos showing the seats and rests a little better.

1st is original Impala headrests with driver side 25 degree bend and oem on passenger side.

2nd is the reverse, with the oem original on the drivers side to show the extreme rake forward that pushes your neck forward and downward.

3rd is both Escalade headrests attached.

Toggle back and forth and you can see the difference plus the extra visual room. Hope this helps someone.

THe 60's & 70's American mid & fullsize cars were better than the foreign machines by a long stretch.
My '69 Polara 500 has flat buckets with a long bar for a headrest. No side supports. Kinda like sitting on a Lazy-Boy. Not good in a car with 338hp and 460 ft-lb of torque and a 4-speed manual LOL.

This is a 1970 Monaco 500 but the same buckets and console as my Polara.

I had a 1983 or 82 AMC Eagle Limited wagon in the late '80s that I stole for $35... yes you read that right. I had to swap out the really doggy ripped up baby Ca-ca Green interior with black plaid from a mid 70's Concord that didn't smell so strongly of wet German Shepherd it made my eyes water. Got the Concord column shift too rather than the uber-cheezy T-handle on the AMC floorboards. Upgraded the obnoxiously intermittent 258 AMC ignition and the poor excuse for a Carb with Ford 300-6 plug wires, Ford 300-6 cap-n-rotor, Ford TFI coil, and Motorcraft/Autolite 2150 carburetor. Hands down the best 4x4 I've ever owned. Awful seats... both the original 80's and the 70's replacements. Black plaid looked cool but it was not good to drive for more than two hours. The guy that bought it from me for $800 in 1991 is still driving it.
Imagine dog hair everywhere and a stench you could smell with the doors closed.

It kinda looked like this when I was done stripping out the donor and installing in the Eagle... without the cheezy plastic T-handle.

My 74 F-100 had a flat, vinyl bench seat with no sculpting. And even with no power - a low compression 302 that couldn't get out of its own way - it only took one hard corner to find oneself on the passenger side :)

I wore my lap belt mainly for that reason :)

BTW, the rear glass was as close to a head rest as they put in trucks back then :)

Back on thread for a second,

You can also find the matching headrests on the 2007-2014 Tahoe, Yukon, Denali, and Escalade. Look for the Ebony Black Leather adjustable headrest. Might find it cheaper if its not a Cadillac.

Or any GM headrest you like, as long as the mounts are 6.75" center to center, it will fit. Measure first before buying..
