This was done to fix AC turned off engine over heating error in 2014 impala limited LTZ
My coolant temperature sensor seemed to be working fine when I pulled it out and tested it, but even when the engine was hot the temperature gauge read cold, and the radiator fans automatically turned on full blast even if the engine was completely cool.
Alright so I eventually figured it out. So first off I'll add " trying to remove 2014 impala limited thermostat housing black bundle of cables is in my way " so others can find this solution. I did not have to remove that silver pipe. In the picture you can see a thin piece of wire on the bottom of the picture. I used that to help get the bottom bolt out. I watched a few videos and most peoples wire bundle was way looser than mine and they could move it a few inches with ease. I had to wrap that wire around the cable, tie it in a loop, then use a screwdriver with the wire looped over it to yank that SOB up and over that bolt that's wedged against the wire to yank out the housing. A neat trick is to make the wire just long enough so when you're yanking it you can rest your hand on the black cross bars or w.e those are on both sides of your engine bay. I used all of my body weight and might to yank it back.
It might be better to use something like ratchet straps because the wire was kind of tearing into the bundle a bit. Also maybe with ratchet straps you could tie them off to something solid that won't bend so you can have both hands free to maneuver out the thermostat housing.
A final note, after verifying the engine temp sensor was working and replacing the thermostat and bleeding the coolant lines the ac turned off error was still there and the temp gauge still wasn't moving from cold. All I did after this was reset the cars computer. I followed Scotty Kilmer's video here.

Basically all you do is disconnect both battery terminals, then use a jumper wire to connect them together for 15 minutes (while still detached from the battery). (side note this might lock out your radio but mine was okay afterwards) Then reconnect the battery, wait another 5 minutes and it might just fix your problem. If I had to do it over again I would have reset the computer first. My thermostats gasket was a little messed up but I don't think it was necessarily bad yet.
