Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure something out. I've been dealing with this problem for about 2 or 3 years. My car went into limp mode with the code U0101 so I took it to a transmission shop. They fixed it in one day(I'm assuming they just pushed it in) and then a month later it went back into limp mode, and it stayed in limp mode for about 6 months. I did continue to drive the car and ended up taking it back to a transmission shop and asking them to check the wires and everything before just saying its the TCM and they told me to replace the TCM. I paid $1,600 for the TCM to be replaced. The car was in the shop for a week. I got the car back on a Friday and the code popped back up on Saturday. There was a warranty for a year on the TCM.. But they told me when I took it back that following Monday that it's not the TCM and that it was something else inside the transmission. They recommended for me to get a new transmission. So the car was stuck in limp mode again. I eventually went and got my transmission rebuilt for $3,000. When he rebuilt it he said the TCM was dead because there was no communication to the TCM (code U0101). After a few words back and forth about the TCM being included in the rebuild, He eventually replaced the TCM. The car worked for 2 days and went back into limp mode. When I reach back out to him he said that I need a new TCM connector/pigtail. I called Chevrolet to get a part number for the piece but they couldn't find one. He advised me to look it up on ebay or a junkyard. So now I'm looking to see if I can find it at a junkyard or on eBay. But does anybody know what years are interchangeable and also if they dealt with the same problem.. I'm assuming it's the plug because of myself pushed it in in the car worked but now it's not working. It is a 2014 Impala LT 6T70 Gen 2..Can someone please put me in the right direction

Find another shop that isn't so comfortable throwing your money around like it's an unlimited supply. They're not diagnosing anything. They're blinding throwing darts at a board and replacing that part. U codes generally are for communication issues on the line, and checking the wiring and associated harnesses is what a good mechanic would do. This place is obscenely taking your money and not actually fixing anything.

Are there any other codes? Who is scanning these codes and reporting them to you?

I went to two different transmission shops The first time I went They said it was the TCM they got the same code I had my mechanic scanning and had the same code and also AutoZone etc. I just had my mechanic check it again today and it's the same code with three different parts all saying something about no communication ... I have a 3-year warranty on the transmission and the TCM but I don't want to take my vehicle back to the man who was extremely rude and kept my car for a month.. We can't seem to find the exact plug or transferable vehicles that I could use to get that plug off of in GMC don't have a part number for it because it doesn't come with the TCM..

Well, the man who redid my transmission said its probably the plug, and to bring it back, but at that point I just decided to try to find the plug piece myself , but it seems GM doesn't have a part number for it, so I've been looking online for a connector or pigtail. I was told i cant get that part separate.

May I ask a couple questions (I'm separating-out your writings because it's a little confused due to lack of punctuation - making it hard to figure out timelines and what order things happened in, and hard to know where one sentence ends and a different thought begins. I could guess but that is risky. It's a technical conversation so want to be helpful if possible.

---

Gonna begin where you wrote "When I reach back out to him he said that I need a new TCM connector/pigtail." I'm doing my best to separate your thoughts in the intended spots. Sorry.

--

"After calling Chevrolet to find out a part number or something they couldn't find one."
[Do you mean you called your local dealer and they couldn't find the part in their stock, or maybe they couldn't identify the part so couldn't find the part number?] [In either event, did you call dealers in other areas too?] [Also, how did you communicate to them exactly what part you need? It's always possible they misunderstood and/or simply didn't make an effort.] [I'm trying to determine if it's a good idea to start fresh and identify the part ourselves, and maybe to ask you to post a picture of the pigtail, or anything that clarifies, because even if I think I know what plug you mean, and even if it seems obvious, I get a nagging feeling this needs to be clarified.]

---

"that (they?) just sold that part" [do you mean the dealer only sells the TCM and it doesn't come with the needed wiring, or do you mean they don't offer that wiring for sale at all, or?] [The 6T70 TCM is integrated inside the transmission and there's internal wiring and plugs, plus external wiring and plugs. Exactly what 'plug' did you press?]

---

"so now I'm looking to see if I can find it at a junkyard or on eBay but does anybody know what years are interchangeable and also if they dealt with the same problem." [Once it's clear if you are searching for internal or external parts, then most salvage yards are masters at knowing what interchanges.]

---

"I'm assuming it's the plug because of myself pushed it in (and then) the car worked but now it's not working." [This is good work on your part. Can you post pictures for clarity. I think I can look in the 6T70 documentation for an actual part name (identifier) and then might discover if the part is the same for all versions of 6T70 or if it differs between makes and models and years.]

Can someone please put me in the right direction."

My Fault, I was upset at the time of writing the post. I went back to correct some of it. The picture of the plug that you posted is what I'm looking for.

Holding spot while I sort thru my 6T70 recent downloads. Knowing for sure what plug you mean will help.

See Page10 sketch in 6T79.PDF (not Impala specific).

I have seen this several times before, You need to check this first. The connector on top of the driver side strut tower often has issues, Try not to pull it apart unless you have to. I have found many times that wires going into or out of this connector break, A quick look at them is all it takes. The connections inside connector, I have never found bad, Give a slight tug on wires one at a time on both sides of connector while still connected. Keep this connector in mind for any underhood electrical issues, as any wire in this connector can cause issues, When I find a bad or broken wire, I just do an overlay. If an overlay is done on any connector, leave a little extra wire for a future disconnect of connecter, that way there will be room to repair wire after reconnecting, hopes this helps

I'm going to get the wires checked and buy a new connector piece, I went to Chevrolet e yesterday and the man there told me I would have to buy the whole wiring harness if i wanted to replace the part. and priced it at $800. I don't plan on going that route though

I think I have the same problem. I have a 2009 SS IMPALA and when into drive it barely moves at snails pace ! And I the TCM replaced so I wonder if that is where my problem is .
Probably so, if the Stabilitrak and traction light is on.
