Your correct to an extent-flushing only makes matters worse if the clutches are worn to the point that the gunk/deposits in the trans are what are allowing it to shift.
It won't make matter's worse if the issue is bad solenoids,it just won't make it any better.
In that case I don't feel bad cause I at least got the customer to do his maintenance.
I just try to have a little more integrity-and yes I know i'm a weirdo as far as technician's go.
I'm not afraid to tell my SM that I won't do something he tells me too if I don't think it's what is needed.
I've told him I won't just hang a part like he asks several times,if I don't think it will help the customer.
It pisses him off sometimes, but he always knows he can count on me when I say i'm going to do something and do it right.
It's a trade-off,but it doesn't comprimise my integrity and that's all I care about.
I'm the first one he goes to for alot of stuff-just not the hackjobs.

Now I want you to keep this in mind. Just because you're looking at pids to determine whether or not the part is bad, it will not always tell you. There's reasons why GM puts out bulletins for certain parts. They've updated the parts or procedures. And I'll tell you if you want to run a "do me a favor" auto shop, go right ahead, but in the long run you're not doing anyone any favors. That's why GM goes to lengths with sending out messages to their techs, called "Fix it right the first time." Its a monthly news letter that comes out updating techs on new procedures.

a lot of places have it, but GM's the only one I've seen that actually sends out a monthly newsletter with the description of the problem, and what not to do and what to repair. But they might not be the only ones that do it, since its been a while since I've been at a dealer that wasn't GM.

We don't get a monthly newsletter, they just update the front page of the database whenever it comes up.
We also have a tv show that comes on once a month broadcast online and through the dealer satellite.
Goes in detail about different issues that engineering and tech hotline has dealt with.
I think i'm the only one in the dealership that even watches it.
We're a smalltown dealer,nothing big.

hey, im having the same problem with my 03 impala with a 3.4, 4t65-e tranny. I had this problem before, the tranny burnt, i changed it, now 28k later its getting really bad again. from a complete stop then starting to move, it revs up a bit, then goes and theres a really hard shift, surges your head back. i work at Part Source (a canadian part store company owned by Canadian Tire). I can find the bwd part numbers for the 1-2,3-4 shift Solenoid(S9857) and for the tcc pwm Solenoid(S9849), but i cant find one for the Pressure Control Solenoid. On the bwd website there is a listing for a TCC Solenoid(S9825) but comparing the part to the picture posted here, it doesnt match anything. Can anyone give me a hand finding the part number for the pressure control solenoid? is it dealer only maybe?

Send a note to dave@tripleedgeperformance.com . He'll get you a good deal on the solenoids, or tell you the part numbers. He's a 4t65e guru. I'm sending mine in to him for a rebuild this fall.

email sent, thanks.
