1964 Biscayne... wagon?

Ok I wrote the intro & posted it, but you're probably wanting to see the "oddball Biscayne" I mentioned.
What this car is... is a 1964 Chevy - Pinner "service car". It started life as a 1964 Biscayne wagon, when new only three Biscayne wagons were shipped to Pinner Coachworks for this conversion. Service cars were popular mainly in the 1930's thru the 1950's, larger funeral homes who could afford one used them as the workhorse of the business. They were mainly used for removals (removing the deceased from their home is more discreet with a service car) but also used to fetch caskets from warehouses or taking chairs & flowers to the cemetery. Production numbers were very, very low for service cars, only the most profitable homes could afford yet another coach in their fleet (a coach-built cars are extremely expensive) and Pinner only built three of these in 1964 only. All three were delivered to a distributor in Brooklyn NY & sold locally.
How were they built? The rear doors were removed, then the door jambs were cut out. All the window posts were cut out and then the car was cut in half & stretched 30". Somehow they formed new sides for the car to fill the now huge void (door skins were not reused) & a single sheet of steel to fill in all the windows on each side.
They were finished off with large chrome wreaths & 3 narrow chrome spears on the window filler panels. All 3 were black with full custom made gold interiors. I do have all the coach-specific parts & the full interior. In the professional car world these three cars are still highly talked about, desired, & sought after. Of the three mine is the only one known to exist. It was last seen in the 1980's in a driveway in Brooklyn & photographed by an enthusiast. These 5 photos have been in several coach-related books & publications through the years as they are the only photos to ever surface.
My Pinner surfaced in an Ebay classified in late September 2010. Location was upstate NY. I saw the ad & a picture, then called the guy & bought it over the phone sight-unseen the same day it went live online. As rough as it is it'll be as stunning as it once was in the next couple years. It's a shame it fell into neglect & left outside at some point, but it's well underway of being restored.
When purchased it was a rolling chassis. I have since installed a .030 350 Chevy engine, Powerglide with a mild stall, and began to piece it back together. Ok, enough yammering of what this thing is... here's a picture! (sorry only one, still learning how to link multiple photos into a thread)

thats pretty cool man so your putting it back to a coach and not a custom?
I guess that would be the best thing to do since there were only 3 made in that year.
Very cool car man cant wait to see the progress take some more before pics and post them up i would love to see the inside

Yes i'm going to keep it in the coach configuration. The look i'm going for is to make it look the way it did originally, but with a much more agressive look & sound. The body will look just as it did when Pinner Coach built it, but it'll have a raked stance, aftermarket wheels, "bigs & littles" tires, and snarly sounding duals dumping down @ the back corners of the quarter panels. Please let me know if you have any parts from your "parts wagon" that you'd sell, i'm in need of some trim pieces.
The engine & transmission went in during Thanksgiving weekend. I hope to buy all the goodies i'll need this weekend to get the install completed. Still need to buy torque convertor bolts, a starter, fit the headers (have a small issue clearing the motor mount on driver's side), gaskets so the intake & carb can be bolted down for good, go thru my stash of pulleys to come up with a combo that works, etc. just all the stuff you never think about gathering until you drag home another rolling chassis car!
I don't have the heart to do any customization on the body... even though a good friend & bodyman is dying to chop the top. This car was the only attempt ever made to revive the traditional "service car" look so in the professional car community this particular car is legendary. I will say there are several within the procar world who are not at all impressed with what little mods I have done & am going to do with the driveline & wheels... but that's too bad I do what I want! Glad you guys like it. Will post up some updated pix as things start to come together on it's restoration.
For reference here is 2 examples of what a traditional service car looked like, and they went extinct pretty much in 1956...

Here's some other shots you asked for Bernie. The rear interior is removed except for the headliner, I popped in the lower side panels (the only 4 original panels they re-used) but do have all the other side panels. Only thing missing is the original floor but I do have the casket rollers & bier pin tracks so making a replica floor isn't a big deal.

Here's the rear interior shot, the original tailgate has a manual window, the spare tailgate is electric:


This is right after installing the grill, bumper, & some trim for mock-up to see what it'll look like:

Done some work this summer. Added new wheels/tires and did some suspension work. Really need to get on it this winter & get it road worthy!
