I think it may have something to with a switch on the gear shift linkage, as some times the reverse lights won't turn off either. I can usually get them to turn off if I put the car into gear and back to park. If there is a related switch on the shift linkage, is it inside the trans, or can it be accessed by taking off the console inside the car?

You mean they do not turn off at all anymore? Running or not? If thats the case, check the switch. If you want the daytime running lamps to turn off, you have to pull the emergency brake up, or push the emergency brake pedal down, dont do that hard. Just enough to make the lights go off. Hope this helps!
