There were only 2,088 of these Indy editions made so I was just trying to find other owners of them. They are awesome cars and I have only had it for 3 days but I love it. Tell me your thoughts on it if you own one.

The original owner should have recieved a certificate from Chevrolet that was a picture of a 04 Impala Indy SS on the track at Indy that had the production # listed out of 4088. It had both signatures from one of the heads of GM I think and Tony George President of the Speedway.

You might be able to contact Chevy on their 800 # from their website and see if they can give you a production # or a repalcement certificate. I know their is a lady that works w/ GM as far as special edition Monte Carlos, but I don't know if she deals w/ Impalas or not.

2004 Indy Impala SS

I have one that's been in storage for the last 3 years...only 25,000 miles on it. I will post some pictures once it's out of storage sometime this fall.

I have one that I bought from a dealer in Macedon New York. He got it from an auction in Michigan. I was told that an executive from GM had it as a company car. It is the best car I have ever owned. We drive it alot, it has about 85,000 mi. on it. This car is FAST!!!!!!!!! How can I tell what production number it is?

I also have an 04 Imp SS (indy limited edition), and soon after I purchased it (Oct of 05) I wrote G.M. and asked about production numbers on this particular edition. They wrote back and said there were 4088 produced and I have the 2556th unit. I live in California and I had it shipped by truck from Chicago; (sight unseen) Carmax found it for me and promised it was a pristine car. They were right. It had 15k miles on it, never wrecked, etc. I recently upgraded to 18" black, 5-spoke wheels with P245/45ZR18 Toyos. Also, I have added darker tint on all windows, including windshield. I installed a windscreen in front of the sunroof. It sure cut down the wind noise! I am planning on a [email protected] cold air intake with filter next. It supposed to increase H.P. by almost 14. I sometimes worry about the transmission, as it makes a high whine when it's cold. I have heard of problems with the standard Impalas, but I think the supercharged units have a stronger tranny. I have to research this....I've had my SS for 3 years and it never gets boring. I love it!

IIRC the only diff between the 4T65EHD and the 4T65E are
1. gear ratios 3.05/3.29 for N/A, 2.93 for S/C
2. from the diff out (pass side axle, diff, parking & sungear, etc)
It also has a larger TC/Flywheel, and lower stall speed on the TC

The trannys hold up very well on an UNMODIFIED (CAI/FWI/PCM still count as unmodded) car, once you go to smaller pullies, cam/rockers, etc they runinto issues. I beat the living snot out of mine, and the trans is only slipping. The only thing i have managed to break on the car are one pass side cv boot (burnouts @ the track most likely), and a wheel hub siezed on me. My clutches are slipping, but have been for oooo, almost a year and a half now  Been putting that off till i finshed the engine build I'm working on. No sense pulling it twice ;)

if you ever need trans work done, i recommend http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com/ but being in cali, its a bit of a drive for you ;)
