I'm trying to find out where an oil leak is coming from. Could it be that the oil pan needs replacing or is there anything else located on the driver's side that could make it leak? The leak is about 3 bolts away from where the transmission joins the motor.

A hose, the rear main seal (motor to transmission) the transmission. Could be coming from a head gasket, runs down the side of the engine and drips where it does but does not originate at that location.
Best thing to do is get the engine really clean and the you'll have a better chance of locating the source of the leak(s).

1.Green or Orange is coolant, dexcool is orange like V8 Splash Juice. Dexcool is used on GMs since 97 and above.

2.Red is Tranny fluid.

3.Brown like maple syrup is motor oil

4.Clear like corn Karo Corn syrup is brake fluid

5.Blue is windshield wiper fluid.

By position is brake fluid or tranny. The color will tell you for sure what it is.

It could be your valve covers or intake gaskets, 3800's were notorious for valve cover gasket leaks. Also, check your oil filter, maybe it isn't on tight.
