Researching our 1969 impala we've run across some conflicting numbering. The vin and the protecto plate number are only one number of the year.

vin # on impala 164677S110510

protecto plate 164679S110510

this is a 1969 body style impala but the vin #stamped would indicate it is a 1967

any thought or help

This is an interesting one...

Both Vins will decode just fine

1 = Chevrolet
64 = Impala V8
67 = 2 door Convert.
9 / 7 = Year 69 / 67
S = Plant, St. Louis
110510 Production serial.

Back in the day the serials were all done manually... People made mistakes. It could be that you have finally noticed and error. What does the paperwork say? I had a ford where it went 22 years with an incorrect ownership and i was the one to notice.

This is really weird. A mistake was the only thing that made sense to me since the production numbers were the same and the body style of my car looks like a 69. I got a suggestion from another forum to check the rear body vin # I'm going to try and look there but it may not be readable if there is rust

Thanks
