I would like to know what on the vin tag denotes an SS? Say I was looking at a bonifide 69 SS Impala. Is there anything on the vin tag that says it's a real SS? I know it is RPO Z24 but RPO code aren't on the vin.

VIN

I looked in my books and after 67 they don't list anything that I see yet, that designates an SS. In 65 it was 166 on the vin, in 67, it was 168 but for some reason they stopped breaking it out as that. I will keep looking just because I am interested. Hopefully someone else has more knowledge on this subject. I have most numbers on the older stuff, just never looked for a 69.

The reason I ask is because 69 SS's are very rare and very easy to clone. I want an original SS sport coupe hopefully with an original L72. I'll take a 2 door sedan biscayne with radio delete and numbers matching L72 4 speed! (the unicorn)
