Help us out with some more info....why do you suspect the alternator/battery? Any DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)?
I had the same problem before but with a different vehicle until I put a brand new battery in then it never happened again
But this vehicle I have changed the battery to a new and an old one but I still have the same result of it just turning off randomly
Ok, but this time with different vehicle the problem is different.

Tell us more about the shutting off while driving. How many times has it happened? Under what conditions....high speed, idling, hard acceleration? Any difficulty starting the engine?

What engine do you have? How many miles?

I would check for any DTC....if you don't have a code reader, then the auto parts store will have one and will read the codes for free.....
I could be driving and make any turn or it can idle but it still shuts off when my fans kick on to cool.os the car it acts like it wants to die but doesn't until the fans shut off then it fully just dies this has a 3.5 engine with only 220,000 miles on it
hey, I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing, it can be quite frustrating when unexpected problems arise on the road. Actually the same happened to me some time ago and even the mechanic was blank about the problem. Kindly give me an update if you can , so I can work on my problem too

  • I'm not sure "only" goes with "220,000 miles"...that's rather a lot....
  • Your engine shuts off when the fans kick-on or kick-off?...not clear from your post....
  • Is the issue only related to your fans turning on-off (or off-on)? Does the issue happen any time with no relation to the fans?
  • Still suggest you have the auto parts store check for DTC....it should be a free service.....
Weather the fans kick on or not it still happens

My 2010 is doing same thing. Several thousand $$ later at a Chevy dealer and 2 small town shops...no clue

About 4 years ago at 83k miles it did same to me and I had it towed to Chevy dealer. They charged me $4700 for transmission work. Seemed to fix the issue but now it does it all the time at 128k miles.

These are interesting points as my fans also come on whenever they want. Some days no fan at all and some days fan will work unless I turn fan to HIGH. Then no heat or ac.

$4700? Did you mean $470? The first number is more than enough for a new tranny.....

How long did the Chevy dealer fix work? If the problem worked for a significant amount of time, then I would check your Chevy dealer repair invoice to see what they did.....would certainly give you some clues as to how to fix it again this time (assuming it's the same issue).....

Two grounds to check...one by right side of steering column for climate controls and by the starter for cooling fans operation
As to the car shutting off...couple things may cause it...bad key...try different key....too many keys on the key ring...just try with ignition key ONLY...no cell phones or chargers close to key ,interference with thief deterrent module ... Bad thief deterrent module... Harness grounds corrosion or loose.. Wire rubbing shorting once in awhile when hit a bump or turn a corner ...check all spots harness is fit tight against anything...motor trannie firewall inner fender under passenger seat.
Did you ever test the battery current sensor. Note for your car there is 2 types one 5v from BCM
one 10volt from BCM
IF bcs is falling it may turn other accessories off as commanded by computer (ECM)

What is bcs? This sounds promising because as I'm driving the clock changes to 12:00 sometimes. Sometimes the car completely loses power and a split second later restores causing tranny to give a loud thump. The passenger seatbelt randomly thinks someone is in seat. Ive had garage check all grounds and they allegedly did. I've pulled the ecm 15 fuse and reinserted 15 min later. I will start on my own going through your list but keep in mind I'm not skilled at all. I have considered the power lose occurs during one of my keys use but haven't confirmed. I can tell you no one can sync a fob to my car.
Battery current sensor..feeds info to ECM ( main computer) and BCM ( body control module)...The BCM will shut off different accessories if current is low. There is 2 types 5 volt or 10 volt via BCM of the BCS"S..IF replacement match part with one on car..(junk yard ) corrosion on neg battery terminal will cause a low current value that the sensor will read and pass on to ECM and BCM..the ECM will have final say
BCM will cut off operation of some accessories
