If you were waiting for a used HPTuner to become available for a good price, now is the time! For $250, you'd have everything you need to tune your vehicle (each vehicle requires 2 credits to "license" the vehicle).

This is by far the cheapest I've seen a used HPTuner device in some time - especially because it also has 2 credits.

If interested, jump on it QUICK because it will NOT last long.

Not only can you tune your vehicle, but HPTuners also provides an AWESOME scanner application....

PM sent! Just for clarification, I am NOT the one selling this device - just letting people know that it's out there. Basically, it's half price compared to a new HPTuner device. WHen you buy new, they do include 8 credits (instead of the 2 included with this used device), but since you only need 2 credits per car, most people only need 2 credits anyway....

I will say - the HPTuner purchase (I bought used as well) ranks up there as one of my best purchases for the Impala (along with my Rosen head-unit)! I *love* being able to tweak things like shift points, TCC lock/unlock speeds, amount of torque management applied to shifts, driver-demand modifications (basically, gas pedal sensitivity), etc.

PLus I learned a TON about hos these cars work1

Even if you've been considering the Overkill tune - you can purchase this device and then purchase the tune files from Will for $150 and have not only the Overkill tune for $400 total, but also have the ability to tweak it to your liking, revert back to stock tune if/as needed, etc...

Very inexpensive way to get yourself into an Overkill tune (with benefits!).

Well, if anyone was interested in this and waited, you're too late - it's gone already (told you it wouldn't last long!). Used HPTuners devices usually go for almost as much as new ones. You *rarely* find them this cheap.

Unless, of course, someone from here bought it!

You should have said something - I would have been willing to buy it and re-sell it to you (for the same price of course!).

I would love for a few others to have an HPTuner so we could share experiences, etc... I still change my tune from time to time. I really enjoy seeing how different settings change the feel of the car. At first, I was deathly afraid of changing anything, but then I realized that as long as you make minor changes and only change things that you understand, it's actually pretty safe...

And the scanner application is just pure awesomeness. Can see exactly what your car is doing and why. It's like Torque Pro x 1000. :)

I mostly need it for small stuff right now, like correcting the speedo and shutting off my check engine light (removed the A.I.R. system per TSB, ECU keeps looking for it and throwing the code). Question about Torque though, will it scan the ABS and SRS systems also? When I do work on other cars I may want it for those (I have a decent OBDII scanner already). The OBDII I have will do the engine codes and some body codes, not much else though.

No, Torque Pro does NOT support ABS and SRS stuff on GM vehicles. Actually, my understanding is that it's not a limitation of Torque Pro, but rather the bluetooth OBD-II adapters and GM vehicles. I *think* that it has something to do with GM not releasing the info required for "3rd party" support or something like that. In other words, you'd have to pay GM big bucks to get the data required to interface with it. At least, that's what I seem to remember the reason being...

Torque Pro will report all data that the bluetooth OBD-II adapter has access to, so it's not really a Torque Pro limitation...

EDIT: For that matter, I don't think HPTuners scanner supports it either - for the same reasons.

i saw this thread and got excited, only to realize it was old....

just realized my pay check was without insurance premiums this time....think i'm ordering the autocall from overkill this weekend. pretty excited!

An HPTuner Pro with 2 credits just popped up on Ebay for $350 if you're still interested. Have to be quick though - it won't last long - trust me!

Man, that sucks! HPTuners is so much nicer because not only can it do what Autocal does, but it also allows you to modify the tune as desired. Just stuff like adjusting the transmission shift points, amount of torque management, etc to your exact preferences is so nice... So if you wish that it shifted into 6th a little later, for example, it's extremely easy to do that. it would have cost you $450 total if you went the HPTuner route ($350 for HPTuner device + $100 for the HPTuner tune files from Overkill) - which is probably less than you paid for the Autocal solution (just a guess though).

Oh well - if you do ever decide to get an HPTuner (the $350 mentioned above is long gone already), you can just read the Overkill tune from the car since you will have already applied it with Autocal).

I still modify my tune from time to time trying to "perfect" the shifting to my preferences. :)

My understanding of the AutoCal device is that it simply allows you to "apply" a custom tune - not modify it yourself. I think it also lets you datalog and read/clear codes too. But what it does NOT allow you to do it modify the tune - just apply it and datalog.

With an HPTuner, you can do all of that, plus you can actually modify the tune yourself. It's really a whole different ballgame in terms of functionality....

Either way (AutoCal + Overkill Tune or HPTuner + Overkill Tune), you'd still end up with the same Overkill tune (although, I think the HPTuner version of the Overkill tune allows a few "extras" that you can't get with the AutoCal version) - it's just that if you go the HPTuner route, you can also modify the Overkill tune yourself - or design your own custom tune (which is what I ended up doing - I don't even use the Overkill tune).

After seeing your post yesterday, I messaged him to make sure everything was included, since the picture lacked the whole kit, and then never got back to buy it.

Between errands and painting my brake parts, I got sidetracked and it then was gone.


Do I even need a vendor tune to get started or is it easy enough to just start tuning on my own, using the HPT forum for tips?

You program/edit the HPT from a laptop, then just plug the HPT into the car to reflash, right? IOW, can I program remotely/away from the car, then just plug the HPT into the car to download that program?

I know it will still apply and remove the tube but now I'm bummed out i didn't get the controller i thought i was. I guess i didn't think there was that big of a difference between them. Can i just open and tweak the settings on my pc? I'm in IT so i think i could do it fine, just not sure if there is an app to do so already or not.

There are certain things that are somewhat easy to modify in a tune (such as shift point and torque management stuff), but other things like engine timing require a great deal of knowledge. Basically, I used the Overkill tune to learn a lot about how things work (by using the HPTuner software to compare it to a stock tune to see what was changed and why). It takes a lot of time and research to learn this stuff. Obviously, you have to be very careful and only change things that you fully understand - you don't want to blow up your engine. :) I've spend a LOT of time doing research on the HPTuners forum (and asking questions).

As far as I know, you can't modify the tune with the AutoCal device at all.

And yes, with the HPTuner package, you can edit your tune on a PC "remotely" and then just "apply" it to the car when ready. HPTuners also has a fantastic scanner application for reviewing datalogs. Very, very powerful software.

Yeah the only thing i really wanted to tweak was when overdrive comes in. I want to bump it about 5mph later on my 4 speed as it tends to bog a bit. On a slight incline it goes into overdrive and you can feel it lugging a bit as the rpms are right at 1000 or 1500 rpm (can't remember which it was at this point which it was). If they didn't shift but about 5mph later i think the issue would be much improved

Yeah, that's one of the things I also modified on my 2012 - changing when the TCC locks/unlocks to avoid those "bog" situations. If you've already purchased the Overkill Autocal solution, I'm sure that he can modify that for you (if not already done in his tune). But it definitely is nice to be able to do that kind of stuff yourself instead of relying on someone else to tweak things... I must have modified my exact shift points, TCC lock/unlock speeds and other trans parameters dozens of times to get them "just right" (for my driving styles). :) With the HPTuner, it literally takes less than a minute to update the tune parameters once you connect it to the car.
