I have a rattle that is coming from the left rear area on my 64. It is a repetitive clunk-clunk-clunk that happens under hard acceleration. the rear suspension on the car is pretty much stock. I have checked everything on the underbody and can find no witness marks or anything loose. Any ideas?

Check the center carrier bearing for the drive shaft. It is buried in the middle of the X frame. A weak bearing will clunk when put under hard acceleration. Also check the body support mount in the driver side rear wheel well. A rotted out mount might cause some body noise under strain.

good luck:cool:

Thanks for the feedback. I have replaced the center support bearing and still have the clunk. I will have to take a look at the body mounts and see what kind of shape they are in. I am in the process of installing a 383 stroker and a tremec 5 speed.
