I'm preparing to replace the trans solenoids in my 09 SS. I did the filter and fluid 6 months ago and would like to avoid dropping the pan again to drain fluid if I don't have to. Other than the driveshaft coming out is there any fluid loss when I pull the side cover?

I'd have to check my Shop Manuals to be absolutely sure, but I'm fairly sure there will be some fluid falling out when you remove that cover. I'd have an oversized pan underneath, just to be on the safe side ... and then I'd be measuring what was lost and adding that back in afterwards.

But I'm guessing it won't be much fluid ...

I've replaced the solenoids on a flip car. Some fluid will come out. You won't take a bath in Dexron VI but it won't be stone dry either.
