I am looking to replace the spark plugs again as it has been about 50K miles since the last change and am wondering if I have to go to the one step colder plugs as I have seen recommended other places. The only performance mods I have is a 3.4" pully, Intense Racing reprogrammed PCM and a JMB cold air intake. I have ample supplies of 93 octane gas around and never run anything less than 93 octane. It seemed like when I initially went from the stock plugs to the one step colder plug there was a noticeable performance loss (I had an clearance issue getting one plug out so I ran the stock plugs for two days) and I didn't notice any knocking or pinging with the stock plugs for that short period of time.

Autolite 104's are the ones you're looking for I believe. And you might want to scan the car and get a dyno tune. I don't trust out of the box PCM tunes. Don't get me wrong, Intense is a good place to go, but they aren't claravoyant and no car is "standard" when it comes to tuning.

Just out of curiousity, can you take pictures of the plug electrodes and post them? We can at least tell you if you're running rich, lean, or detonating.

My question was more "as a general rule" do you have to go to the one step colder plugs when you are running an overdriven supercharger, cold air intake, and PCM tune?

At present, my budget is not going to support a dyno tune. I am going to be scraping to get two oxygen sensors and the spark plugs at this point and I still need to find a replacement instrument cluster because my speedo is sticking.

If you're installing a cold air intake and running with a smaller pulley, you'll be pushing more air into the system and leaning it out. Stock plugs are designed for a specific A/F range not only ratio wise, but volume wise as well. You need to get a colder plug to maintain efficiency, and not work towards popping a piston.

Have you run a scan to check for KR?

Also, if your speedo is ticking, check out www.bbengineer.com, he does wicked work on our clusters.

No, I have not done a KR scan. Where do I have to go to get one done?

I looked at some of the stuff on bbengineer.com. His dashed are pretty cool, but I didn't realize I had to get the Odometer transfered when swapping a cluster. I am guessing at this point that I am going to have to cash in on that extended warrranty that I paid for to get the cluster swapped. The $100 is sounding better for the warranty copay than the $400 it looked like it was going to cost for the cluster, odometer swap, and speedo cal check. Was going to do the labor myself, but it will be cheaper to let someone else do it now.
