Hi all, first post here. Just got my 13 LTZ 2 days ago, really liking the car a lot. Been reading some on the forum, and it seems like a great place compared to most of the stuff on the GTO forum I'm on. Anyways, my question..

As the title says, I have a very slight "tapping" sound when accelerating at low speeds. I can't quite tell if it's even normal or not, but I'm leaning towards not normal. The sound goes away when keeping steady speed, and also at higher speeds. Doesn't do it at WOT either. No noise revving in neutral either. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar sound or not. I know its hard to internet diagnose, and I'd take a video, but I really doubt the camera would even pick up the sound. Car has 70k miles on it, it is certified pre-owned (CPO) from a local GM dealership. I'd take it to the dealership, but I really don't trust anyone with my cars and I try to do almost everything myself so I know it's done right.

Thanks for any input!
Ryan

like sheila said, it might be injector noise. Its the line they threw at me when i bought my 2011 just 2 weeks ago.

I wasnt going to buy it because of the noise actually. My garage dude said it sounded odd, then later that day drove a 2013 with the same noise, then the dealer said their gargae looked at it and said injector noise.

My impala has 53,000 miles on it, and runs great, and great excelleration and all that, but even today, the noise is bothersome to me. even if normal, its just, odd sounding.

IDK,

Im going to record it and post it here, and we can compare, bewhahaha

Yeah that would be awesome. Hopefully the camera will pick it up. After I posted the first post, I tried accelerating in reverse and I still didn't hear the tapping. So far it only makes the noise accelerating from a stop going forward. No idle, free revving, constant speed or reverse noise. Maybe it's just the new car jitters but it's definitely there.

Now that I think about it, I REALLY wish I would've test drove another 13 Imp LTZ they had sitting right next to the one I bought. The only difference is that it had about 45k miles instead of 70k like mine. Although, I guess I still could do that... Hmm...

try higher brand of fuel. mine does the same thing if it does not drink 93, its like the timing is very advanced at low throttle, i only hear it when under a bigger load, say pulling out of red light that up hill, etc.. if i switch to 93 it doesnt do it,

or do you mean the sorta sound like a diesel sound? they all do that when touch the gas, its the direct injection of they new fuel system..

I second this, I put 93 in mine and after what seemed like a full tank the engine sound less "diesel" and makes less noise.

I need to measure 0-60 on 87 and 93 and see if there is a difference using my scanguage.

But 93 does certainly make it sound "better".

Thanks for the info. Since I posted the original post, I did fill up with 92 which is the highest we get here. I do think it helped with the noise too. It's still there slightly but better. Must be a combination of being my first direct injected car and not being used to its noises, and the car needing higher octane. It will only get premium from now on.

its more of a diesel vw sound.. you ease into the gas and its goes rrrrrrr i finally got use to it,

They will spark knock on low fuel though.. my mother get the kids after school and then i pick them up after work. there house is 1000 feet above the road, its a real steep driveway, anyway on lower octane fuel you can hear it spark nocking going up the drive way..
