Should I?

I'm pretty familiar with most Chevy vehicles and used to own a 2003 Impala back in the day. I found a pretty nice 2004 SS Indy 500 Edition for $2k though. Seems to run and drive great only issues I really found were the ABS light and traction control light we're on (traction control light wouldn't go away regardless of hitting the button). The body has just under 165k and is in overall good condition with all badges, stitching and floor mats intact but the seller says the motor and trans have been replaced by the owner before him and he has no idea of when and at what mileage and also no proof of this. My question being should I drop the $2k on it just because of how rare it is with only 4,088 of them ever being built or should I take a pass on it? I did test drive it and it sounds great and shifts great and floats like it's on a cloud.

Personally I would go for it.
BC coilovers would fix the fluffy cloud problem :)

With the engine and transmission not original, would treat it like another 04 model and not treat it as an SS model. If you want it based on that and think it is worth what an 04 with 165,000 miles is worth where you are then yeah go for it. Not knowing the miles on what was put in it, I would have to take a real close look at it and it would have to be real clean or I would pass.

Yep check for rust under the rockers and door seams.

Thanks for the replies. I was trying to upload a few pictures of it for reference but for some reason I'm not able to? I think I'm going to take a real good look over it and check more in depth before I drop the cash on it as it will be a daily driver for at least the next couple years.

Also, make sure the engine was replaced with another Supercharged v6.... the 3.8.

If you want to post pics try using IMGUR or photobucket and size them there. They won't post here if they are too big.
Run for the hills! You are buying someone else's problems.
