wind blew some snow back on the top of my driveway while i was at work. but most of it was ok. as i neared the top of the hill the car froze.. didnt spin. just kinda moved in a weird jerky way. i turned the wheels side to side and the pedal was too the floor. but no wheel spin.i guess thats what traction control is supposed to do? no spin?

should i have pressed the button while the gas was on or off? usually i'm able to power thru the last few feet of the hill when i need to. dont remember this ever happening before though.

im pretty sure in the past the wheels just spun me up to the top just fine with some finesse from the steering

if you're in danger of getting stuck in snow, kill the traction control. a gentle wheel spin may help in some cases, others i've found a lot of wheel spin will get you out...just be careful it can't suddenly catch traction while spinning wildly as that won't be good on the half shafts/trans.
The answer is yes. A few years back we had an ice storm over a snow 4-5 inches. My Impala 9th gen could not rev and would get going! I finally turned the traction control off and spun the tires and my way out of the problem.

i believe i have in the past. it's just a switch that tells the computer to leave it alone and stop "helping".

Don't know! Never tried. But I believe not to turn on/off something under load. Just thinking old school mechanical things.

Since it's all electrical, i would say yes.
