According to the Chilton manual, it should be doable without removing the cat. These are the steps listed:

1. Remove the radiator air lower baffel and deflector.
2. Remove the secondary air injection pipe.
3. Remove the secondary air injection pump hose.
4. Remove Secondary Air Injection Pump Bolts (Qty: 3)
5. Disconnect the secondary air injection pump elactrical connector

Could be its wrong, but maybe it just takes some finagling to get it out.
