[1999 White C5 Coupe]

I wanted to get my factory 19" rims powder coated but that means I would have to take the rims off first. I have some 22" I was gona throw on the car for about a week, however I didn't know if that would mess up my tire pressure sensor? If it does once I put back on my factory 19" will it go back to normal or will I have to pay someone to recalibrate them again?

The tire pressor sensors for the TPMS are matched to the computer via location. I you return the orginal wheels / tires to the same location - they will read correctly. If not, the TPMS display will show the tire pressures - but not the correct location (if the RF wheel is now on the LR, the tire pressure for the LR will show in the RF position - unless you re learn the sensors). The sensors are very easy to re learn - using the proper tool.

While the other wheels without TPMS sensors are on the car - you will repeatedly get low tire pressure warnings and your speed may be limited - as the computer will think all four tire locations have defective sensors.

Isn't there a way to do them without the special tool?

On my 2011 Malibu I could set the parking break, turn the key to accessories and hold down the lock and unlock buttons. The horn would beep twice confirming that I could re-learn the TPMS sensors.

Then the front left blinker would illuminate indicating that the computer was trying to locate that tire. I'd increase or decrease the air pressure by 10psi and the horn would beep once confirming that TPMS sensor to that tire. Then the front right blinker would illuminate and I'd repeat the process around the car until finished and the horn would beep twice.

Took about 5 minutes to do.

I own a 9th generation Impala.

The process you described will not work for the 9th generation Impala models.
