I managed to break my drivers side mirror while backing out of the garage. It's a 2016 Limited LTZ. The mirror has the antifog.

How hard is it to replace the mirror? Is it necessary to remove the dash to hook it up?

Thanks.

It is very easy to replace the left or right mirror assembly. Did you bend the door frame at all?

Remove the door panel (easy - see YouTube videos), then remove two 10 mm nuts holding the mirror. Have a helper hold the mirror while you remove the nuts, so it doesn’t fall and scrape the door paint. Disconnect the wiring harness connector, then reinstall the new mirror.

Luckily I only damaged the mirror assembly. I'll checkout YouTube for instructions to remove door panel.

Nothing to it!
Just remove the triangle plastic piece in the front corner to expose the bolts that
hold the mirror to door frame.
Yes u must remove the door panel. Dont forget the hidden screw behind the red
reflector! The door panel is held on by those push pins u just pry up/out on to
release the panel.
You must remove panel to unplug the wires to the mirror.

See my post where I broke and replaced my Impala mirrors with heated ones.

Don't forget to test the door side mirror plug for a defroster power lug (if u have 5 pins in your plug).
Then you can order the heated mirrors like I did. They sure come in handy here in the great frozen north!

If you have 5 lugs in the door side plug use test light to check for power when you turn on the defroster power. If u have power at the lug then you can get the heated mirrors.
Usually the LTZs have heated mirrors from the factory but not the LT or LS !

NOTE: If you have THREE lugs in the plug you can't install heated mirrors!

Do both mirrors use the same 6 position plug?

If they use the same plug it should be fairly easy to add the wires for the heater.

Where it gets exciting is powering the heaters... Do you know if the heaters get PWM voltage from the BCM or just straight 14.5v from the battery.

Yes
My 13 LT had the same 6 position plug with 5 power lugs in both doors. See pic above.

I can only assume that they get power off the defrost switch.

Running a wire?
looks like a chore to do that!

What year is your Impala?

Mines' an 09 SS. It has heated mirrors.

I would guess the OP has a 2016 LTZ Limited... judging from his handle.

If it's all off the mirror switch it's maybe 16" of wire to both heater terminals running completely inside the doors... I've done much worse.

If its a 16 LTZ and has a rear defroster then he should have heated mirrors already!
But who knows as GM decontented the last years of the 8th gen. cars.
Best to pull off the door panels and check for power then order the mirrors.
