Whats going on folks.

Im planning on installing a Alarm. Ive done some reasearch.

I called my local installer that did my 2005 impala, and they want $900, and that doesnt include the microwave sensor, which said would be an additional $80, but advised against it because they are touchy.

Ugg, thats alot of money.

So, I asked what brand they use, and told me Compustar. Ebay has the same Alarm for $300, plus the $35 for the microwave sensor. Plus the bypass and such.

After Youtuben this install, it seems like its fairly easy, in addition to the bypass kits, almost plug and play.

I think I can pull it off myself. Ive done my own stereos, and I know, night and day, I guess, but not electrically moronic, lol..

Looking at the Viper 5704 2-way

Its $200 and has the express ports and data to data and all that good stuff.

ANyone done this yet? ANy tips?

The object is to save the $700, which is mindless if you ask me.

I've been thinking about upgrading the alarm in my car. I currently have an older viper 474v I want to say, remote start and it's only remote start. I was thinking how easy or difficult it would be to swap in with a different system that has remote start and an alarm system.

OK, ordered everything, I think, lol.

2-Way Paging Car Alarm Vehicle Security and Remote Start System

Got the Omega Excaliber AL-1950-EDPB includes the OL-Blade-AL-64 bypass $188.00
OL-Omega Loader cable- $38.00
Dual Zone Proximity Sensor $35

$260 compared to $980, ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm I might start a new business.
Had to get a Omega PC link Loader to program the Alarm Via PC for the Blade card. Makes the installation programing easier. Your supposed to be an authorized installer for this alarm, supposedly, so I needed the Loader,..

has all the featured except Iphone and gps addon, because I dont need them..

There is a dude on Youtube that has a step by step installation from begining to end on this exact alarm, so that swayed me to buy this one, plus he has a rant about Viper, lol, again, Sold me..

Doesnt look simple, its a 15 video parts for installation, but he is pretty dang thuro.

We will see soon enough.

Enough said, lol.

OK, I got everything, watched videos about 432,421 times,

Im going thru and pre wiring everything up, getting it ready for install..

Now, My Impala doesnt have an OEM alarm, but does have remote start, and panic mode.

Its VERY hard to find info on certain applications, such as INSTALLING IN A 2011 IMPALA WITHOUT AN OEM ALARM.

Im stuck on making the decision on if my Blade-AL still works the flashing lights and all that stuff.

Getting there, slooooooowly but surely. Not actually installing till tomorrow, but want everything ready to roll.

Even the instructions are :gaah:

UGG,

Now i know why i cant find any info of people doing this themselves.

its a freakin nightmare. Unless Im missing something, I cant take the bottom of the dash apart. Not talking about the small plastic part and the metal plate, im talking the rest of it. It seems to go the entire width of the car from door to door. Sooo, that makes it even worse.

The wires are thin, like I cant believe they are that thin.

Id like to throat punch the tech at Excalibur. He was no help, seeing he was annoyed before he took my call, like I interrupted his lunch or something.

Was going to do a walk thru for you guys, but man, Im so irrated with it, not likely that will get done, lol, I just want to be finished already.

You are not alone. I once asked for and received an aftermarket remote starter as a gift with plans of installing it myself. I'm actually pretty good with electronics, but after I saw all of the wires and hassle involved with connecting the remote starter, I never even attempted installation. I ended up giving it away a few years later...

There is a reason why it's so expensive to pay someone to install them professionally - because it's a royal pain in the a$$!

No doubt Man,

If i could get that entire bottom out, it wouldnt be so dang bad. just need a second wind, and collect myself, Pretty frustrating.

Sure they charge a crap load of cash, but I would imagine install with repetition and know how, should drive the cost down.

They quoted me 100% markup on even the sensor, THAT alone is ludicrous.

We'll see what happens,

The cast aluminum dash is a pita to remove. the only way the dash will come off is you have to remove the brake pedal assembly , there is a long black bolt approximately 6 inches long.
If you need some pics I should have them to make your install smoother

Hey fellas, just an update. Havent really did anything since Saturday to the alarm install.

The BIGGEST problem is the wire connections. The whole strip and solder thing is cool, but its difficult to strip the wires in such a tight space without probably cutting a few in the process. I have the proper wire strippers for the job, but you need working room for it to happen.

Was going to use T connectors, or better known as vampire connectors, but again, if the tiny wire isnt lined perfect, we run the risk of cutting them, even with these connectors because the wire is so thin.

So, Im looking into these things called Posi-Taps. No cutting, splicing, stripping OEM wires. Just simply screw one part to another, and I have to say, just by watching liveos on these things, they seem awesome. Plus they are insulated already.

Now, I cant find them anywhere. So have to order them.

another thing, I cant find the gauge size of wire in this car. Looks like its 24, but not sure. Still searchin for that.

Other then that, I think I have it all figured out.

Anyone know how to remove the ignition area? There is a bottom cover under the steering wheel, and it looks like it swings down because it looks like it has hinges, just cant figure it out either. thats where my wires are located, ( pk3 and ignition connectors both there )

OK, those are ordered. Actually ordered from somewhere else. got 12 for $16 shipped.

Still couldnt find the wire size, but have to think it cant be smaller the 1.6MM, wanted to get the order in ASAP.

Called 8 p[laces around me to see if anyone has these, none had them. I even called a specialty store and asked, they didnt have them, but the dude asked for me to bring them in so he can check the out and possible carry at his store.

*shruggs, we'll see what happens.

All this to save a measly $600 bucks, SMH
