Rear Window Shattered

Hello!

I'm curious to see if anyone else has had the same issue I am having now...

A few weeks ago, my rear window made a loud popping sound and then shattered completely. The tint held it together, so it never caved in on me. However, it allowed me to see that there was no shatter point, or BB, or anything that would have broken my window. After research, I found that this is a freak thing - but it does happen sometimes in extreme temps, etc.. The night it happened, we were having an ice storm. So I just figured I was an unlucky person that had this freak of nature thing happen, and shrugged it off.

Here's what I'm getting too...
A few days after it happened, I got my window replaced at a glass and body shop here in town. They're a reputable company, and I have used them before to replace a windshield. My rear window cost $382. When I got my car back, I was frustrated to find that the window had like... ripples in it. So I took it back to the shop and they offered to replace it.
Today they were putting the replacement in, and they said that the new one that was shipped to them had ripples in it as well. So they called the Chevy dealership to order one directly from them, and Chevy said that these windows are on national back order, and nobody has been able to get ahold of them lately.
This is causing me to wonder/question if this is a common problem, and that's why the windows are in such high demand? I asked the guy at the glass shop, and he said not that he's aware of. Also, I looked at recalls, and didn't see anything.

Has anyone else experienced this, or is this just my luck right now??

The demand is probably more related to winter and the rise in car accidents during the winter.
This has happened to us 3 times in only a year of owning a 2014 LT. did/do you continue to have this issue?

Two Chevy dealerships couldn’t give any answers, but the window repair place we took it to the last time thinks the rear defrost connection/wiring is shorting and disconnected it. So far so good since then (fingers crossed)

May use the search feature at the top of this page. Many unhappy '14 owners.
