Please Help, AIR PUMP DELETE???

Hey everyone, im new to the site and new to impalas, Im looking to buy a 1996 impala tomarrow, the only thing is, he guy told me that the check engine light had came on because there was water building up in the air pump. he told me he send the computer out to have something deleted off the computer. Im in cali, so i guess there is a ssticker in window saying that it is all legal and will pass smogg. Is anyone familiar with this?? Im Not too much of a mechanice, so i just wanted to get some info from you guys about this. Any info will be very very helpfull.

The GM TSB for the air pump covers only the DISABLING of the pump not the REMOVAL. Yes, it is non-functional, but if an emission inspector wants to press the point then you are not legal if you removed it and its plumbing. In OH, they never looked under my hood so its not an issue. [I'm even running an OBD-1 conversion and still passed.] YMMV.

I HIGHLY recommend a custom tune. You can get rid of the nuisance SES and get more performance and often better fuel economy. PCMPerformance.com tuned my wagon and I have been very happy with them.
