Hey all,

I have had my 2014 Impala for about a year and was wondering if you all have any good recommendations for some basic performance upgrades I can make to it? Anything to improve HP, torque, etc. I'm not very knowledgeable so I thought I could try to get some advice from those of you who are! Happy to answer any questions.

Thanks!

Is it the newer body style?... check the 8th gen forums with the LFX engine. Few guys have full bolt ons.
Personally I felt the biggest upgrade to be the Overkill tune, better engine responce everywhere, better shifting.
I have full straight pipes from the downpipes back, everytime i cut off something (cat, res, muffler) i lost low end torque, but seem to have gained a decent bit around 4k-7k.
Also the Overkill ASI Intake helped the mid/top range, didnt seem to effect low end.
Their isnt really much for our 9th gens lol.
Intake, 80mm overkill tb, jacfab 3/4 inch intake manifold spacer, magnaflow cat back exhaust. Don't think high flow downpipe/primary cats are available for the 9th gens yet, but are for the 8th gen.

Once you install just a tune/intake your car will be transformed and feel like it actually has 305 hp.

I've been around this stuff a long time, you'd mostly be wasting money thinking bolt-ons are adding power. A tune will make the car feel more powerful and aggressive, all you have to do is reduce or turn off torque management and massage shift points. You can add an overkill intake but it'll mostly just make induction noise louder, especially if you don't get the larger throttle body to go with it. Trading your money for these realities is a personal decision. Making a real increase in power isn't likely as you can't circumvent the laws of physics with insignificant changes. You'd need to increase displacement, working RPM range, or add forced induction to make a significant difference in output.

Umm... There are alot of mods that increase horsepower for the 3.6l impala, and one guy (impalalfx13)has dynod every mods he has done to show the mods he is doing is increasing hp significantly.
Got to the 8th gen performance section, looks up impalalfx13 threads, or go into his profile and search all his threads

Overkill ASI INTAKE,, overkill tune, overkill throttle body, "ubend delete", bigger cats, 2.5"-3" catback. Jabfab intake insert.
One guy here(forget his name)has all these mods maybe some More I'm forgetting, and he is in the 13's in the qtr mile
Idk why ppl are saying there isn't alot of mods, there are quite alot of mods for the 3.6l impala, most are on the overkill website.

Edit: his name is impalalfx13, go into his profile and search all his threads

And who is to say if that V8 Mustang or Camaro, with even easier to find parts for, doesn't have performance parts added? Then you might need nitrous or a supercharger added on to keep up. It never ends. :laughing7:

I'm just happy mine will get us on the highway and around slower drivers with ease all while hauling the groceries home, and looking good at the same time.

Lol might not be the fastest but common. A midish 13 second impala is unreal when the 9th gens weigh 3900lbs. Looks like an old man car. These cars are way faster than k20/k24 civics with bolt ons, raced all the locals never lost. Which is impressive for the size of this boat.

I may look into this if it means getting the groceries home faster but then again that doesn't mean my wife will cook it any faster... hmmm

I don't think this new Impala looks like an old man's car but I guess in today's world of ricer Civics some might think it does.

What are you talking about? All the mods gained roughly 60whp which is roughly 100bhp(brake horsepower) so the car went went from 305bhp to roughly 400bhp.

Yeah, I have to agree with Grimsin. Impalalfx13 is putting down 280 whp without removing the horshoe bend and without installing those cams that the Australians are making. If he added the cams and removed the bend, he might get to the 320-330 whp mark which would be like 430-450 bhp. which for a car that weighs about 600 lbs less than an srt challenger, can probably keep up with the 485 bhp challenger/charger. Even with the cams at about $1500, cats at $1000 and tune, intake, TB, and intake spacer at about another $1500, you're looking at $4000-$4500 for an extra 150 bhp. Naturally aspirated which is the best kind of power. And considering our cars can be bought for 12-13 thousand; we are looking at a car that for 16-17 thousand can keep up with a scat pack (maybe), carry more people (impala is still bigger than charger IMO), get better gas mileage, and have cheaper insurance with sleeper looks. IMO these upgrades are well worth it and I will soon be installing these as time goes on.

This I would have to actually see.... and dyno's are... well.. good tools for difference I suppose. Even if you achieve four hundred and whatever horsepower... it's still a crappy handling front wheel drive car that really does drive like garbage in any performance use situation. My Grand Prix GTP was pretty mild and ran 13s... but like this thing wasn't fun to drive in a performance aspect... If you want to do those mods and stay with a 3.6 at least buy a Camaro... they are pretty worthless too...

And racing a car that actually makes low end torque in abundance versus this that might make 330 lb ft along with 400 horsepower at 7000 plus..... Well you better hope for some gearing you don't have in this transaxle. At least a Camaro you could do gears like 3.73 or better...... rock a 6 speed with a 4.065 first and actually get out of the hole. Even launching a front wheel drive is no fun..... and no limited slip or locker... These are meant for a touring sedan..... not a wannabe race car.

Maybe you should just hop in your GTP and drive off into the sunset... We don't care about it, and don't care if you're not a fan of an Impala that could spank it. I'm sure they have a forum somewhere that would just fawn over your stories. :lamende:

Lol. Last time I checked I sold the Grand Prix 3 or 4 years ago... so no I won't drive it anywhere... it's probably in a junkyard by now lol. I have a 2014 Impala but I don't have unrealistic aspirations for it either... which wasn't how the thead started here lol. I actually have no aspirations for it.. it's a beater cheapie car to use for whatever. I might just sell it in the spring anyway lol. Reading you fan boys or whatever the hell you are get so angry is entertaining though. Good luck with your 13 second roclet sleds... haha.

Lol its funny the thread starting about performance upgrades for a impala. In which it has plenty. Then your hatin ass come here talking about you hate FWD cars at the drag strip. And your old ass stories about your gtp. Fan boys? lol You joined this site for what reason? Lol you funny bro. NEXT!!

This thread got interesting while i was away. Almost every car ive owned ran in the 13's at some point in its life cycle. Its really not that impressive but thats my opinion. At this point in my life im more interested in a combination of comfort and performance. The days of riding around in my civic with no ac are over. Sure it ran in the 13's but i stayed playing with fuel pressure, rough ride and hot summer days. Im lucky i still have hearing left, damn thing was louder than my supra on the dyno and had half the power.

Thats very Understandable but OP ask for performance upgrades for HIS car. Not no damn education on why his car is FWD trash or telling them to buy a camaro. Dude was being negative as fuck so i couldnt let it ride. But im done. OP just wanted to increase his hp/ alittle not put a damn NASCAR engine in the car. But thats just me...imdone.

with that being said what i would recommend would vary based on what you want out of it. How much noise your willing to deal with, are you in or out of warranty. If warranty wasn't a concern id go with tune, intake and throttle body. Possibly exhaust but let it be known that find the right exhaust for most people is more trial and error than scientific. Reduce back pressure too much and you will lose bottom end which is the most important thing to me honestly.

I believe a few members bought the setup from :: Overkill Motorsports :: however Will has stopped assembling them and selling them. This is the info posted at the bottom of his site.

After several years, I've decided to stop building intake systems for the 14+ Impala, however here's the info you need to build your own:
MRP Manufacturing 3.5" GM Slot MAF Housing with honeycomb screen (Available On Ebay)
Silicone Intakes 3.5" 60 degree silicone elbow
2x Gear Clamps with a 4" or 102mm maximum outer diameter
1/2" hose barb connection and 24" length of PCV/Fuel Hose available at NAPA
Air Filter with 3.5" outlet
If using our 80mm throttle body, you're all set. If using the factory throttle body, you'll need a 3.0 to 3.5" reducing ring; if you get Spectre 9731 that we used it will include the reducing rings.

Drill and install the barb into the silicone elbow, run the 2 feet of 1/2" hose to the valve cover fitting, swap over your MAF sensor, finish up your installation.

You will need a retune to see any performance gains from this. Without the tune you will likely take a performance loss.
