Hey folks!

I just bought my first Impala (very clean, Black 2012 LTZ) and I LOVE this car. I love it so much that I thought I'd join you all here to learn some tips and tricks! I want to do some light performance/appearance modifications to really make it my own and get the most out of my experience owning it.

My first major upgrade will probably be a jump from 18 to 20 in. wheels with some good sticky tires. I know the ride will suffer, but anyone who has driven through Appalachia knows that aggressive cornering capabilities are a must.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know the community and posting updates as I go!

welcome, before doing the wheels/tires look into the strut braces (i just read this article which is why it came to mind) http://www.impalaforums.com/8th-gen-suspension/1549009-zzp-strut-tower-brace.html. as for power, a tune is a popular start with your platform, some have gone the exhaust route but the ECM/TCM tune is the easiest/fastest way to change how the power is delivered. Two companies i've seen listed are overkill (custom tuning with free retunes if you change parts down the road) or trifecta (canned tune, no mods done to it but has some different features/cheaper).

lots of info around here, but i'd start with those braces (read cheaper/effective start).

Thank you for the welcome messages everyone!

Especially Joes74challenger for the recommendation about the braces. The challenge for me here in WV with our hills and crazy rally-course roads is improving the braking and handling, because Impalas are powerhouses but also big and heavy! The more I can do in that direction the better, and that will give me plenty of room to gradually improve HP and decide each time if I still feel safe driving aggressively on these roads.

Best,
LeadPaw
