im a single dad and im trying to get my 2002 impala ls to start.. i really need this car so i can actually take my kids places and dont half-to rely on a ride or the bus.

my mom gave me her old 2002 impala ls thats been sitting in the driveway for the past 2 years since she cant drive anymore, she had lost the keys for the car and said the dealership wanted 300+ for the new key to be made....

to get to the point.

i bought a new ignition lock with keys from my local orileys... got it in perfect......

whenever i jump the car the alarm starts immediately if i have the doors open. if i have the doors shut and connect my jumper the car will get power and if i stick my new key in and turn it to ON the dash will light up, radio turns on and works, everything in the car works... but if i try to start it or if i open any of the doors the alarm will sound....

guy at orileys said it might be a bad switch behind the ignition .. so for another 94$ i paid for that too....

im going to install the new switch tommrow..... if theres any way i can disable the security system completely? or re-set it... i just need to get this car running so i can get her legal...

EDIT: when i do get power to the dash by having the key in the (on) position i get the messages that cycle (needs oil change, battery low, security)... if i try to start the car at all the alarm sounds... same as if i open the door

thanks guys

Try this procedure but make sure you have a good battery that is fully charged:

Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to start the engine,
then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes (the vehicle is now ready to relearn the
Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK).
Important: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch
transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
Start the engine (the vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password).
With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed (history DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles).
Be sure to have a battery charger on the car, as this 30 minute procedure may drain the battery to a point
were it will effect the programming- or cause a dead battery.
The other way is to have a dealer scanner re-program the system.

Don't forget to turn the key OFF for the 5 seconds in between crank tries.
Let us know how it goes and :welcome: to the forum!!
Also can Mod move to appropriate forum :)

You're stretching my understanding of these systems but here's a few more suggestions.
I don't think there is any way of disabling the security system completely without making the BCM and/or other systems in the car mad.
Try leaving the key in the on position for 10-15 minutes and turn it off for 5 seconds then try to crank it.
It may be the bad switch that you are going to replace tomorrow. Obviously, try that as well.
These security problems can be a bear to work out, but keep at it, try google as well, and don't give up!

First Welcome to the Forum and Hope your car helps you out for many years to come...(Once the problem is solved) :)

Second, I have a Question! Have you tried to unlock the car with your key? This would require that you had your door locks changed as well. The problem I think is that your Alarm isn't being turned off..

Next I am wondering do you have or your mom have any of the Keyfobs for the car? If so get a new battery for it and unlock/dis arm your cars alarm...

If no, I am wondering another thing. Does your car have only the OEM Security for your car or does your car have a LED on the dash or console most times Red in Color that flashes. If it does it could be that your car could have a Valet Switch and it could be that with the Aftermarket system that maybe in it has a different Key code then the key you are trying to use and makes the alarm sound... When you say alarm is it just the Horn that honks or does it have a Tone type sound?

If your working with the OEM only you need to be able to unlock your cars door to turn it off or you may want to have a Alarm Specialist come to give you hand. There are things that can be done sadly I can't offer any help over the Internet on how to do this. But I am sure a Stereo or alarm company could give you a solution....

Ok so your system is only the OEM Security system it sounds like... I don't want to say 100% for sure that having a Key fob or your locks working right would solve this issue. There are other things at hand as well... One, I am not sure how the Ign Switch was replaced. I do know that there is a right and a wrong way of doing things. I wonder when you did the swap did you do it in a way not to damage your Passlock II system? If that is damaged it would have to be replaced in working order or again a Alarm company could work something up for you...

Also to upload pictures you would need to use something like Photo bucket and once you have the picture uploaded there you can use their html coding to show pictures on here. You could also use TapTalk on your smart phone to load photos on here over TapTalk server as the host....

Sorry I didn't Finish my thought... Hate it when that happens lol...

So in our Impala's and loads of other cars there are 2 systems at work. They don't work in connection with one another as a safety feature for you. So your system has the Security system, That disarms with unlocking the drivers door, or using the Fob. Then as a backup the Passlock II system has to see the right key to start. That is why I can't say for sure if having the Door locks or Fob in working order will make your car work because of your Passlock II system could be bad/broken... Both these systems have the ability for a aftermarket system so your local Mobile Audio shop should be able to help you with that problem...

I am not sure what all was done on your change out. I would assume that you did the whole switch. There is 2 small wires that is connected to it and then some larger ones on the back of the switch. The smaller ones are the ones that are used for Passlock II system. IF you damage the wires or the connector it may not work right. I have only ran into 2 cases where someone damaged their system when they did the replacement themselves. Also the wires are small. So sometimes can get damaged.

About the Alarm company having system that will work with your car yes. There are loads of options. What part of the world are you in? I am not sure what is offered in Canada if your from that area...

Had the same problem. Installed a Xpresskit PLJX bypass and that fixed mine. Got it on ebay for $25. Any shop that installs remote starts should have it or similar and be able to install it. It basically bypasses the passlock system. This is necessary for remote starters. Will work without a remote starter to bypass the passlock system.
