Hello,

I own a '00 LS with a 3800 motor, the guy I bought it from installed a K&N high flow intake. I'm looking to add a few MODs to make it my own and add a little HP but don't really know where to start. This is the first car I've bought that I actually wanted instead of need and really want to turn it into a monster. I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to MODs so please be patient with me if I ask some dumb questions.

Get in touch with 04DetroitLS, he's the guy to talk to about making 3800 motors go fast. But I'll tell you now that a turbo is a stupid idea, you can get a factory blower for these for WAY less, money you'll need for supporting mods.

Yea, I figured. I'm probably going to switch out the thermostat and add a spacer to the throttle body. I forgot to add that I have a Jet PCU Module installed as well. I wont be able to afford a swap for a while but I am drooling over the thought of an L67 under the hood. What else can I do that's a little more cost effective?

I just got the exhaust redone, the cat isn't even a year old. I wasn't worried about performance initially because I wanted it to be ready for the road before my son was born. I did get dual exhaust put on it but nothing performance. Seeing as how I just paid for the exhaust I have now, Im gonna have to wear it out or hit big at the casino before I upgrade.

fair enough. you say nothing performance so did u just add another outlet? or are u running an aftermarket muffler? and if so what kind?

Just another outlet, The most I'll probably do right now to the exhaust is an aftermarket muffler. Any suggestions?

Most of the guys here swear by magnaflow, and swear at flowmaster.

Throttle Body Spacer

What about throttle body spacers? Would one do any good for my car?

Magnaflow for the w body... Really nice sounding mufflers and excellent flow.

I've never heard of throttle body spacers or MAF de-screening to do any good. I know on the LT1's bypassing the coolant flow to the throttle body makes a difference, not sure about the 3800's, but I'd imagine it would as well.

I mean for about 250 you can get a bigger throttle body for the car. I have a n/a 3800 & I'm just gonna save up & swap the l32(04+ gp) or l67(04-05 imp ss) with a genV blower. But I realized the power gains I want aren't gonna happen with the l36 that's why I'm just savin up the $$$:)

Putting a bigger throttle body on there isn't going to change anything for the better, stock you aren't anywhere close to the amount that the stock TB can flow, all you will do is cause yourself problems. The blower top swap is your best bet.

P.S. Apparently there isn't a U bend coming from my headers either. I'm still discovering this car. I bought it from a guy, who bought it from a mechanic, who replaced the motor after someone dropped it off and left it.

I also have a universal magnaflow cat, can't really do to much with the exhaust out here in Cali. I also read somewhere that a TB coolant bypass doesn't help much for the 3800 when its heat soaked.
