I understand using 1st or 2nd gear for snow but when would you use 4, 5 or 6th gears? If I'm on the highway and shift into "low" will it automatically pick the proper gear for my speed? It doesn't start at 1st gear going 60 MPH does it?

What year car do you have, if 2012 or 2013 if on highway and shift into L the car will shift into 4,5,6 depending on speed. It may be 4th at 55mph so might want to be ready to upshift if your revs start building to fast for traffic

Thanks, I figured that. But what's the advantage of manually shifting into 5th or 6th instead of just using the automatic transmission on the highway?

You can downshift instead of using the kickdown car seems to work better, also can downshift to help you stop better. If on twisty road up and downshifts get read of most of the throttle lag.

I just drive my car in 3rd gear and save D gear for the highway. More power for clearing yellow lights and passing other vehicles. :D

The 12+ models have the 6-speed though, and the manual shift buttons.
