Looks like it is possible to re-add the missing LED strips on the back door for 2016+ Impala premiers.

From GM parts website, looks like you still can buy the part and install it yourself. THough not sure how hard that will be:

2015 impala rear door:

2017 impala rear door: (not able to click on parts 21 and 13 - led lights)

From the diagram, the only difference is most likely the car is missing part 13, which is only $16

The problem is, does anyone know how to remove that piece of trim in front of the light strip? Or is it necessary to remove the entire door trim?

Is the connector still in the wire harness in the door panel ?, if GM removed it then there will be no way to power the LED strip. GM removed the LED strip as a cost savings, it makes sense that the connector for the light strip has been removed as well. You will have to buy the harness for each door. In the Diagram it shows the harness (21) is specific to the 2015 LTZ and the Applique (11) shows versions with and without lighting package. The trim in front of the light strip must have the Translucent chrome in it vs Opaque chrome found in the non illuminated versions. it may take more than a simply adding the LED Strip.

Does 2016+ not have them on the back doors?? I have a 14 2lz and that's one of my favorite things and i was planning on upgrading to a 19 premier this fall. So I'm really curious to know!!!

2016 was the last year to have them as I have a 2016 and it has them in the back doors. Starting with the 2017 model year GM removed them from the back doors.
