flushing the transmission fluid isn't bad, it's just that its not nearly as effective. when you take the pan down cleaning all the soot from the pan and especially the magnet and replacing the filter ensures that no clutch material is left inside. flushes do not carry away that stuff. i just serviced mine for the first time this way at 44,000 miles and looked like the fluid was nice and red but still had that black soot which had to be removed.
