My gf have gotten a change of workplace and we will be moving to Mexicali soon.
Any hints and tips on good quality shops for parts, and junkyards aswell, would be highly appreciated. I ride(or mostly restore still) an -82 Caprice...
Any gatherings in the area worth visiting perhaps?

I guess you'll appreciate being so close to the US? Will be nice to be minutes away ( I guess). You know it's a thousand degrees in Mexicali during summer, right?
Yeah, well for ME its nice to be close to US for parts for my car. Its almost impossible to find here and shipping costs over the border are just ridiculous.
I have no idea how the border crossings are in Mexicali. Im sure its fine, Im not Mexican and that helps in general...

Also I love heat, went to Turkey during summers before and I guess they have 100% humidity and 45C or more. :eek:k3:

My gf dont seem as amused. She´s aiming for Acapulco or Cabo san Lucas where she grew up and spent her younger years.
She´s a dentist within IMSS, that´s why there´s sometimes moves.
Anyway, within a year I think there will be another move to one of those places. She´s been working at IMSS since university and the more years you get the better the perks get.
I could def spend my days on the beach in Acapulco or Cabo with my laptop(just need to find a good solarpanel for the batterys)... :eek:k3:

Seems like a great place to start looking for parts! :eek:k3:
I just need basic parts like panels, interior parts and other simple things that are hard to get hold of here. Not even AutoZone seem to have that stuff in Mex.

Well, you won't have to worry about the humidity at least, it'll just be blazing hot, dry air. The one thing I don't like about Mexicali is that the air quality is horrible - really bad air! The times I have crossed back in at Mexicali it was shorter lines than TJ but again, the air is horrible as you're sitting in the middle of hundreds of idling vehicles with no emissions systems.

As for Baja, I like La Paz, Loreto, Mulege, Los Barriles and San Jose del Cabo best of all. Cabo San Lucas is clean but the beaches are no good since the current will sweep you out to see. I much prefer the scene in San Jose del Cabo...

From the ferry port in La Paz it's only a few miles to Playa Balandra - without a doubt the best beac in Baja. I highly recommend it. :eek:k3: And I envy the month-long vacation. I'd be a new man with one of those!

Hmm, have been checking temps in Mexicali now for about a week. It seems to be really COLD there compared to where I live now. (Torreon) We have had about 40C(104F) for around two weeks now. Will it really get warmer in Mexicali? I really like it now with the 40C during the days and just over 30C(86F) during the night. We will have up to 50C(122F) in june, july here. That is hot... :)

Yes, it has been downright cold at night (for us desert wimps anyway) around here but Mexicali is known to be the hottest city in all of Baja. Temps in the 120's is common in summer.
