For some reason the door lock actuators in my impala behave strangely. Sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don’t. For example I’ll press the unlock or lock button on the fob and they make noises but won’t push or pull with enough force to unlock or lock but sometimes they’ll work fine. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the actuators themselves or maybe a fuse. And it’s all 4 of the door locks that behave this way. Also I noticed that I can press the button up to around 4 times before the actuators don’t do anything at all except make noise. After a few hours or so I can again press the button about for times before it seems to just not do anything.

GM had considerable problems with the front and rear door lock actuators (an assembly with the door latch) on the 2008 - 2009 Impala models.

They are somewhat easy to change for someone with basic mechanical skills. Here is a good video on how to change the front actuators.

Please note that the GM actuators are different for the LTZ models, than the LS and LT models. If you buy a GM actuator, take your VIN to the dealer (or on a website). I am not aware of any quality aftermarket units, and the GM units are expensive.

The rear actuators are a little harder to replace (I’ve done the front and rear on a 2008 Impala LTZ model that I had bought new). There are also You Tube videos on how to replace the rear ones.

Here is a video for the front:

There's a thread about the Gen 8 door lock actuators. I believe some models interchange with some of the Pontiac G6 latches among other nameplates.
If your GM dealer is decent about it they'll give you the part number. You can take that to the internet to find interchanges for junkyard picking.
