long story short.....

I BOUGHT A STORAGE WITH A 63 CHEVY IMPALA SITTING INSIDE!..IT WAS A HARD TOP ;BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER CHOPPED THE TOP OFF IT, AND WAS GONNA CONVERT IT INTO A CONVERTIBLE; BUT LEFT IT AS IS, AND NEVER FINISHED THE JOB!....IT HAD A 400 SMALL BLOCK ENGINE THAT LOOKS BRAND NEW ALMOST, AND SINCE IT HAD A MOTOR, IM THINKING OF KEEPING IT,AND FIXING IT UP; BUT IM LOST AT WUT I SHOULD OR COULD DO FOR THE TOP OF IT!...I WAS WONDERING IF ITS EASIER TO FINISH THE JOB AS A CONVERTIBLE OR MAKE THE TOP CUSTOM BY PUTTING A DIFFERENT TOP FROM A DIFFERENT CAR ON TOP INSTEAD....SO I GUESS MY QUESTION TO U GUYS IS.....

WUT TOPS FROM WUT CARS WILL FIT A 63 CHEVY IMPALA!..I SAW ONE THAT HAD A DODGE TOP I THINK THAT LOOKED PRETTY CRAZY.....BUT YEA,..ANY SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAS,..ANYTHING WOULD BE REALLY APPRECIATED!....THANKS!

Wow, that is quite a predicament.

I wanna suggest finishing it as a convertible. I think that'd be less... tedious, seeing as finding tops and stuff can be really boring online. Ha. Each to their own I guess.

My Dad cut the roof off his Studebaker before I was born, with some tin snips and a can opener. He was really drunk... But it got finished and was really really cool, especially since that model wasn't made as a convertible. xP

So my suggestion is to keep going with it as a con.

*nod*

Hope that helped... not sure about other tops fitting.. sorry.

Do you have pictures of the car? If they didnt hack the job your best method and most affordable would be installing a original top back (1963/1964 share same top).

As in convertible, there is far way more fabrication required in terms of comparison to installing the original hard top. Your car is made to depend on the top as a structural support and my removing it you would have to brace it to prevent rear sag. The convertible has a diffrent frame with extra body mounts and extra reinforcement built to withstand the convertible body. There is no such kit made to do a conversion but there is people who have the complete parts/sheet metal needed to do the conversion witch requires alot of fabrication. (let me know if you need a number to someone who has all needed)

Good luck with your build not trying to discourage you just want give you a diffrent perspective on the conversion, but if you have deep pockets then a conversion is not a bad thing as there is no greater feeling than cruising with the top down!!!!!

Ah ok, yup that can easily be fixed and like mentioned, best bet is just to go back with a factory 63/64 top on it and call it a day, but if you have deep pockets then a full convertible conversion wont be a bad idea. ALLLLOOOTTTT of work goes into doing the conversion not to mention a big price diffrence!!!! at times its just better to look for a true convertible as in the end it can come out costing almost the same.

And not to mention paying all that money and still risking if the job gets done correct!!!! Good luck!!!!

Thanks on the compliments!!!!!!The black car has a similar story to where someone cut the top off and I saved it thats why I am full of knowledge in this situation.:biggrin:

What is your location?

63 and 64 impalas have the same exact top so either year you find will work, just make sure its off of a 2 door car as the sail panels are diffrent in a 4 door...

Summit car ??

I think one of the Kegs racing catalogs had a picture of a 63/64 impala with a Dodge or desoto roof welded on looked very cool!

http://www.classicnation.com/pictures/images/car_shows/goodguys_columbus/goodguys-columbus-car-show-057.jpg

it was a retro redo of the 61 style bubble tops grafted on to the 63/64 square tops (fake convertible versions).

It was called the impala sports roof. Here is another link:

And here is a link w/pictures on how it was made very cool:http://www.penfounddesign.com/Projects-ImpalaSR.htm

The 1963 Impala SportsRoof made its debut at the 2006 Detroit Autorama, and was selected the Super Chevy Pick Of the Show. From there it won a Fab Five Pick at the Goodguys Great American Nationals, Hershey, Pennsylvania, 2006. It received "First In Class- Lo Rod" and a "Special Judges Award" for the vehicle that "best exemplifies the lowrider movement" at the Lowrider Magazine Tour Stop in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the summer of 2006 it received numerous Super Chevy awards, including "Best Full-size 1958-1964 Car" and "Top 8" at the Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, it received both a "Rod & Custom magazine Top 10" and "Boyd Coddington Pro's Pick". The car was featured in Custom Rodder, Super Chevy and Power magazines and was shown in event coverage in Super Rod, Rod & Custom, Custom Rodder, Street Rodder, and several other publications. American Racing Equipment, Inc., selected the SportRoof for its booth at the 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the car was also on display for three months at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California at the end of 2006. In 2007 it was featured in American Racing Equipment, Inc., advertising and catalogs, was a cover photo for Jeg's Performance Products and Pace Performance catalogs, as well as Newstalgia Wheel
