My steering wheel has been loose for ages, and I've never really worried about it much because I was going to get rid of it and get something new. But I've decided to keep it and "mod it up". But I'm not going to "mod" anything until i get things fixed properly.

The problem is: My steering wheel is very loose. It has 4-6 inches of play easily. I don't know what it could be as I don't have the resources to go in and look around. I need to know what to look for when I get some help and check it out.

Could it be the tie rod ends? or the steering linkage? I really have no idea what to look for, PLEASE HELP!

Many things could be going wrong here. I would first check your tie-rod ends, but the likely cause is your pit-man arm. Check all linkages that come off of your steering gear box and go from there. Make sure to have it allinged after.

I'd go to a shop that will do a free inspection. It could be loose tie rods, bad idler arm, bad pitman arm, bad control arm bushings, bad center link, bad steering box etc...

The steering wheel is NOT loose. It could be the tie rods; it could be the steering arm, but in any case, take it to a front-end specialist and have it checked out!

Oddly enough, that justgohome523 name is my Yahoo! ID and that question was posted on Yahoo answers.

I appreciate every bit of help you guys have given me. I'm trying to get ahold of my buddy at a Chevy dealership to see if he can check it out. Money is tight so I'm trying to narrow the possibilities down before anyone goes in and messes around with it.

Can anyone give me pricing ideas on some of these parts that may be bad? Pitman Arm, idler arm, steering box, etc. Hell, if anyone lives near Charlotte let me know and I'll bring it to YOU:biggrin:
