The alarm and anti-theft system have nothing to do with the radio, in a Blazer or an Impala. If your friend had ignition problems after installing a radio, then something was mis-wired.
The Impala is equipped with a GM data-bus type radio, so unless you use one of the expensive adapter modules or a relocation harness, you'll lose all audible warning chimes when the radio is removed. But even if you don't use a data bus adapter, you shouldn't have any problems with the alarm or anti-theft system.
I currently have a 2008 Impala with the base AM/FM radio, no MP3. Can I replace it with the improved MP3 model with 6-disc changer by just installing the new radio in the dash and taking it to the dealer to have the new VIN# installed to make it operational?
Thanks for the help.

So I bought a Jvc after market radio and got everything I need to install it but I can’t find a wiring harness to adapt my current harness to the aftermarket radio harness. Any one know where I can find one?
