We recently bought back a 1968 convertable SS that had been in the family and are getting it restored. The front panel states it's a 327 engine, but when we ran the number on the engine block it comes back as a 307. I was wondering if the vehicle VIN can tell us what the original engine was? The VIN is 164678U125892. We know from research the 3rd digit is the engine, however would like input as to what the 4 represents.

Also if anyone knows of any sites that we can access that would tell us details of the original features/options of the car based off the VIN it would be appreciated.
