mechanical pump.? wondering if the mechanical fuel pump can pull through the electric pump. Do i need to pull out the tank to get to the fuel pump.

No and yes. The factory pump will act as a shut-off valve when a vacuum is applied to it's outlet side. Ditto with some factory filters as well.
