Get rid of it!

Car has 13 codes yet not one dash light has appeared and car needs whole transmission rebuilt in a 2 year old/7 month and 106k mile car. I do have a lot of miles but all are highway. Transmission problem has been since 99k miles. I don’t even drive the damn car anymore, & last time I drove it someone hit it in the parking lot (now bumper and hood is uneven and car has big scratch on paint, WTF) Sucks getting a new car not even 3 years ago and having these many problems. And it’s not like the car hasn’t been regularly maintained, I’ve gotten oil changes regularly, changed transmission fluid and filter, air filter, & cabin Air Filter at 70k miles and the car was only 1 year and 6 months. I’m stuck with the car and it sucks. Car is a 2016 Chevy Impala LTZ.

And in my diagnostic it says the same, get rid of it before you be in my predicament!

The transmissions in these cars usually do pretty well when taken care of and not abused. As to the codes, no clue, but your second post shows your olm is at 7%.

I take pretty good care of all of my cars and I change the transmission fluid and filter around every 70k miles. And the car has had transmission trouble for more than 7k miles now when the oil was first changed. I barely drive the car anymore so I’ll change the oil soon but I’m not going to rush it.
Does this car have an accessible/serviceable atf filter?

yes , don’t be in a rush to change them though cause they usually don’t need changing till 4 years but I just changed mine cause of high mileage.

Assumed you had a 3.6 with 6 speed, my prior post was with that in mind. Cannot say for the other option as to how the the trans holds up, but in the 12 and newer models with the 3.6 and 6 speed the trans has been pretty solid.

You changed the trans filter in the 6-speed trans on a 9th gen "new style" Impala?!?! They don't have "user servicable" trans filters - you have to acutally disassemble the transmission to get to the "lifetime" filter on these transmissions...

If a shop told you that they replaced the trans filter, I think they are fibbing. :)

lol. Yeah was kind of wondering here with the post about changing the filter, if maybe the op had a 4 cylinder. Did not think the 4 cylinder was offered in the ltz trim but was not sure.

Agreed am curious as to how the filter was changed. Think some here have over 200 thousand on the transmission in the 12 and newer impala's with no issues. While no transmission is bullet proof, those in these cars is not known to be prone to failure.

Might post those 13 trouble codes you are seeing, possible it could be that some are linked to a common issue that might not be costly or difficult to fix.

it’s in the owners manual for maintenance schedule and says it serviceable, dealership changed me $200. So whatever they had to do, they did it.
I think there is some confusion here... I just checked the 2016 Impala owners manual and the transmission filter is not mentioned anywhere in the owners manual, let alone a change interval of 4 years. Even the transmission fluid is only listed in the "Severe" maintenance schedule (not listed at all in the normal maintenance schedule) - and that is 45k miles for sever use (just fluid - no filter) - no "time" interval.

I can guarantee that a dealership is not going to drop the transmission and crack it open to change a transmission fluid filter for $200. They may charge $200 to change the transmission fluid itself, but not the filter in these cars.

The only item I see that mentioned an "or 4 year" interval was the air filter - and I sure *hope* they don't charge $200 to change that! :)

I'm kind of curious where you saw that the transmission filter was serviceable and had a 4 year interval.... Maybe I'm missing something.

I would be taking that invoice in with me and going to that dealer and asking what they did to your car. If in fact they charged you that much and they had shown for work(parts and labor) that they changed a filter and your transmission failed at some point after, then they should take some accountability. Most dealers offer a 12 mo/12000 mile warranty on the work they do anyway. Sounds like someone screwed up or they lied to you. Either way, a manager at the dealership needs to be getting an earful.

and the thing is I don’t even feel a problem with the transmission shifting or anything, the only problem I have is shaking uphill. Feels fine but dealership assured that problem was transmission out of all of the codes found.

just talked to dealer and got clarification that they only flushed and changed fluid not filter and assured I wasn’t overcharged and that’s the price for the fluid change but I thought when fluid is flushed, so is the filter, I guess I thought wrong.
If your '16 LTZ has the 3.6 LFX engine and the 6 speed AT70? transmission, there's no accessible/serviceable atf filter and no pan. Just an 11mm drain plug.

I may be wrong, but thought that the manual did not recommend a flush on this trans, suggests just a fluid change. Techs and even service advisors at some dealers are incompetent. Perfect example was the tsb on the oil filters where gm put out that the pf48 should not be used on these cars. Had several changes with the wrong filter performed by a high volume gm dealer, just goes to show they make mistakes and do not stay up on this stuff like they should have to. If they made a mistake with yours, they should be accountable for that.

Maybe maven or some other certified mechanic will chime in here.
TSB on oil filter?

12 lt can you clarify the statement you made on the pf48 oil filter please. Just had an oil change done at a local auto service center and would like to make sure they did not use a filter that may cause harm to my vehicle.

The pf48 was sent on these cars from the factory and is still the correct filter for police models, however the tsb that came out said the bypass pressure was not right and suggested using pf63. We had probably 6 or 7 times that a 48 was used on our car by the selling dealer once or twice by myself. Even after I showed the service dept the tsb the service advisor said the 48 was the right filter but that they would use the 63 on our car. Have not used the dealer for service again since. The delco pf63 or 63e is the right filter for the 3.6lfx.
Iirc, the 3.6's are now coming from the factory with the PF64 installed?

I was told the the PF63E as the they changed pressure stuff in it for the original PF63
