Hey everyone im new, When i drive my Impala (01) V-6 the gauges just read zero, nothing moves. When I took it to the shop they said some chip must be replace, something behind the key. Idk what it is, i just need some help on fixing it.
I'm looking at the factory wiring diagram for the instrument cluster on my 04 and the guage info comes from the PCM/BCM via a class 2 bus to a logic processor in the cluster.
Meaning it's a network signal, and the ign has nothing to do with it that I can tell....other than powering the PCM-if it's driving, then the ign is working.
Might be time to find a competent shop, and drive quickly away from these guy's that want to fix your VATS transponder?.
I could be wrong,I'm a Ford tech not a GM tech-regardless a class 2 serial bus is definately not something you can diagnose at home usually.
It's either a ckt issue/PCM issue/Cluster issue or Network issue.
This is all assuming an '01 is the same as an '04.....your call there,I have no idea.
