Fuel pump not working

Finally got the old box out of the garage after sitting for a few years. Went to start it cranks but won't fire. Runs when applying fuel directly into throttle body. The fuel pump is not working. Tried banging on the tank with a hammer still nothing. Any suggestions?

Model year/engine? How old is the gas? May swap the fuel pump relay with a like one for testing. Is this car equipped with a fuel pump driver module (fpdm)? A fuel pump shut-off? May also change fuel filter. Ultimately, it may need a pump.
It's an 89 with a 305, and I don't know what a fuel pump driver module is

'89 shouldn't have one.

Yeah that's what I think I'm going to do this weekend. Also noticed the wire to the coolant gauge sensor was broken off :(
Check oil pressure sending unit before pump in tank replacement.
Was it running when it went into storage ?? If in storage a long time you should be thankfull no gas made it to the throttle body... If l were you l would address the coolant temp wire issue.. The oil sender is part of the fuel pump wiring circuit ...check it plus wiring close to tank and ground close to tank... If pump is working you should hear it buzz in the tank when key first engaged to start.
Note a bad coolant temp sensor and a bad oil sender can shut down power to fuel pump as ECM (computer )has improper reading of engines health.

Thanks will do, yes it ran great but has been stored for a few years. I had read something about about the oil sending unit that's why I'm trying to figure it out.
I also heard it could be crank shaft sensor? Where are those located and how do you test them?
Before you throw parts at it check for codes....real easy with a paper clip in A+B on data connector ..they are the ones on the top row at the far right...run the paper clip between them..then turn key on NOT START..your check engine light will flash...one flash pause flash flash ...this is code 12...which means system is working...it will cycle code 12 three times (flash pause flash flash) after it has shown three times count the flashes after...example flash flash pause flash flash... That would be code 22...if there is any it will cycle them three times also...could be a few or none ...if code 12 cycles three times and then light flashes code 12 again there are no codes...turn key off then pull paper clip out
