This may very well have been answered somewhere else in these forums, but i just can't happen to find it.

I am trying to find out any and all engines that can fit into a 1967 impala, does not have to be the originals, just any.

Thank you for your time and information.

Damn near anything. You can probably fit two turbo four bangers in there

They came with everything from 250 six bangers to 427 Rat motors. A good friend had a '67 SS 396, 4 speed with a 3.31 12 bolt posi back in HS in the 70's. With no PS and 60 series tires all the way around it was a bear to drive at slow speed but drop the hammer and it would pin you in the seat and give you that "stomach in the throat" feeling.

There's plenty of room for just about anything engine you want. If I had one in need of more modern motivation I'd seriously consider a modern LS series. It would take some work though. If you don't want to go to that extreme then any Gen 1 - Gen III SBC or Mk IV - Mk V BBC is pretty much a straight bolt in with the appropriate mounts and brackets. I wouldn't settle for anything less than a 350 personally, my memories of the 283 and 327 cars aren't especially impressive. Perhaps with some decent gears and a 200-4R or 700R4 they would do better but with the drivetrains available back then most of the small block Impalas were pretty dismal performance wise. Even some of the 396 cars were nothing to write home about and the gas mileage was horrific. With a 4 speed and some steep gears they were a little better but they're heavy cars, they need some decent torque and torque multiplication to get them rolling, at least to suit my preferences.

I'd like to see a modern day LS motor in the engine bay. Maybe an LS7 just to keep the c.i. up where it belongs (396+). Plus then you'd have an extremely reliable motor that gets much better gas mileage (for those long cruises). And you can mate it to an even better T-56 6 speed transmission!

I'm working on planning my own '67 Project, where did you get this info on compatible engines?
