Whatever you say.:eek:k3:
Hey man, I never intended this to be a B-body v/ W-body debate, it's been done to death, and 1- It's almost always argued wrong on both sides, and 2- I love them both. I was merely making a joke about the car, the way he made a joke about his engine bay.....it's gone way the wrong direction, so in the interest of peace, I apologize!

The engine covers can be swapped, just not in one piece. There are a couple how-tos floating around showing how to cut them and make a 3 piece cover. Looks alright I guess. Im not a fan of any of them. They are ugly and make working on them twice as difficult as need be.
oooooooooo Now this I want to see.....I guess I have some searches in my future!! Thanks for chiming in!!!!

Well I already know it would be quite an undertaking, but I've come up with 3 donor cars that would run the spectrum of a mild to wild custom. And in a sense, all 3 would be considered wild in that it's a major customization no matter what, but.....

I've picked the Pontiac G8 GT as the mild one, because I think it would be the easiest. I think it's the closest to the Impala in size and shape. So considering wheelbase, wheel track (width), I'm pretty sure it's nearly a take the old stuff off, and slide the G8 underpinnings on in so to speak.

My middle option would be to use the Cadillac CTS-V. It's a midsize, so there would be some extra provisions needed for wheelbase and I think it's thinner too (track), so there may be some widening to do, I can't tell just yet. But the LSA is a sick motor, plus I always thought that the hood bump on the CTS-V was such a sexy bitch I'm dying to see it on an Impy.

If I were to say screw it, money is no option kind of wild build, then really, Corvette ZR-1 is the only option. The adjustable suspension, IFS and IRS, and oh yeah, the king of all LS....the LS9. mmmmmmmm tastey! But lets face it, there ain't nothing gonna line up right and it would be a serious undertaking.....but yeah......mmmmm tastey.

Haha, I think we can discuss it as adults as long as it's in the realm of tricking out our rides, not a debate on which platform was best. I've read enough to know passions get inflamed on that subject....Like I said before, I'm not looking to start debates, just ways of customizing cool rides, hopefully I don't twist anyone up on this. Me and My08 can talk amongst ourselves if need be.

^No, you're good. I'd honestly support you in your venture.

which would you like to see? I'm pretty partial to the cts-v myself, only because I really really really want to add the hood bump, and I think it'd be a bit disappointing to open it and not see the LSA, plus, it's really strong power without going too crazy...

As far as I'm concerned, as long as it has the supercharger, it doesn't matter to me haha! I haven't heard anything bad about it so I don't think a first year would even be a problem. I just think finding a wrecked one would be the hardest part. and being that you need so much from it, it would have to be a rollover or t-bone hit.

Well honestly I think the hardest part would be actually fitting the engine in. But It's not impossible. There's a guy that did a swap on his S2000, he stole a 5.3 impala motor. And his Honda has a real engine in it. And its RWD.:)

^ I dunno, I've thought about that too....is there even enough room to go to a conventional setup, seems like there is. I've really only compared through pictures, and a measuring tape would be in order.

Seems to me that the Impy's engine bay is much bigger than the Caddy's......but really who knows with photos these days...I wish there was a website with all sorts of data on cars....where you could look up wheelbase, track, etc.

I wish I'd look first before typing hahaha.....according to wikipedia, looks like the cts-v is closer in dimensions than I thought...3 inches difference in wheelbase, and not enough in width to bother caring..only thing now is engine bay size....anyone know someone with a caddy who could measure for us?

Impala:

Wheelbase 110.5 in (2,807 mm)
Length 200.4 in (5,091 mm)
Width 72.9 in (1,851 mm)
Height 58.7 in (1,491 mm)
Curb weight 3,764 lb (1,707 kg)

cts-v '09-present:

Wheelbase 113.4 in (2880 mm)
Length 191.6 in (4866 mm)
Width 72.5 in (1841 mm)
Coupe: 1,882 mm (74.1 in)
Height 58 in (1472 mm)
Coupe: 1,420 mm (55.9 in)
Curb weight 4,250 lb (1,930 kg) (mfr est)

Pontiac G8 GXP:

Wheelbase 114.7 in (2913 mm)
Length 196.1 in (4981 mm)
Width 74.8 in (1900 mm)
Height 57.7 in (1466 mm)
Curb weight 3946 lb (1790 kg)

Corvette ZR-1 (just for shits and giggles)

Wheelbase 2,685 mm (105.7 in) <--- how surprising is that?!
Length 4,476 mm (176.2 in)
Width 1,928 mm (75.9 in)
Height 1,244 mm (49.0 in)
Curb weight 1,515 kilograms (3,340 lb)

Wow.....quite interesting to see the numbers side by side so to speak...I was totally wrong in my assessment of wheelbase etc. Aside from a shorter driveshaft, and wheel spacers for the extra 1/2 inch, the biggest problem would be size of engine bay...you can even weld in the trunk pan area so as to make the rear suspension etc bolt up under it, front subframe will prolly cause the most problems..

I took no offense as to what you were saying, cause really I could care less about it. This is the internet and people are going to be keyboard commando's(not saying you) so I let alot of shit go. I just simply log off and all is forgotten.

Oh BTW, there was a Monte Carlo SS that had been converted to a rear wheel drive. I don't know what all was done to it to make it that way or what motor/trans was used.
