Ok so I'm new to this making a drive shaft I have 66 impala 4dr has a BBC 396 and 700r4 transmission with. 10 bolt. Yes the transmission was switched out from a power glide I believe. I need to know how long of a shaft do I need so I can order one. Thanks in advance. Picture is the same car. Need help my son went through Brain cancer and I want to get it done for him.

Google how to measure for a new driveshaft. There are several YouTube videos that show what you need to do. Then talk to whoever is going to make the new shaft, and give them the measurements.

If you have your original driveshaft and just need it shorter, you can have it cut down. The question is the length differences between a Powerglide and a 700R4 which being a clutch pedal guy, I'm not sure of. If no one jumps in, the length differences should be able to be found online. The 10-Bolt Rear is the same as a 12-Bolt in length, therefore you just need to find out the Trans differences. The Engine will also be the same in length as long as it sits on the original type Frame Mounts.

An experienced drive shaft shop should know the length of the different transmissions and be able to cut down or build the right shaft.

An experienced driveshaft shop should know the difference in length of the transmissions and be able to make your driveshaft work.
